Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Applying as a contractor

I’ve applied as a contractor for a job at GM, which is very similar to my job that I had as a salaried worker before I was laid off. Is my history at GM a advantage or a liability to be chosen for the job. Has anyone faced something similar?

Not true. My cousin, an electrical engineer got the tap from GM in 2009. One year later he was hired as contract. His boss in the next department welcomed him back like he did not cut his balls off a year earlier. He was employed for seven months before he got booted out to Van Dyke Avenue again. I know people need jobs and income, but do not keep going back to places that have been mind playing with threats for years, and already cut one of your balls off.

A contract worker does not work for GM. They work for the contract house, but at GM. A significant legal difference.

You are not going to be hired because if they did hire you, it would support a potential suit against GM. Being laid off means never working for that employer again. You may as well come to terms with it.
