Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

This is why GM is going down

GM is going down. Day by day market is shrinking, car prices are rising, consumers are dwindling, outsourcing is growing, reputation is dying, stock price is stagnant, quality is awful, the brains of the organization are getting let go, bonuses and pay are growing for management and more. It's quite interesting to see how this is all unfolding and how the folks that work there don't see it. It all just needs to go away. Bring back the straight 6 and watch folks buy the car they only need.

Couldn’t have worded it up better myself. A good post by @YDUxDgh-3vla that catches the essence of the situation.

The government isnt protecting GM.

At least, not deliberately.

They're just benefiting from a tax system that benefits the wealthy and companies.

And it got worse with the trump/Republican tax cut.

Thought Ms. Barra was a wonderful leader? She is suppose to be the savior? No so fast. Society, GM, Government, Consumers are paying this supposedly brilliant leader for what? To fail. Her age is beginning to show and wrinkles and sagging skin are showing up. Use to be auto companies were on the evening news nightly. Now they are on the news when they fumble up. Great degrees from great colleges won't save this company. Sad state of affairs.

This may happen eventually, but it isn't happening anytime soon. The government will continue to protect the Big Three, including GM. GM has paid almost nothing in federal taxes since it came out of bankruptcy and is not likely to be pay much for the next several years either. A tax break allows them to carry over losses from long ago to continue to get this break. GM has only paid $36 million in U.S. federal taxes since 2010 but paid $552 million in taxes to foreign countries in 2017 alone. The bailout continues, just in another way. Current employees probably need to worry more about being let go due to age than GM going under.
