Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

IT employees must go to a hub

Heard from a reliable source that that by 2020 (end I assume) all IT employees will be in a hub.

I see this as another way to get rid of people and rehire in 'developing' nations at a much reduced rate. I work in IT and trying to get anything done with people in the developing nations is very difficult, and impossible if you need it quickly.

The job search has begun.

I found that IT Goal page mentioned. Shows IT is 80% in hubs already and 10% to go by end of year

Since they are lying already I am sure they will set it to 93% achieved and not a single person will have moved

Most of the other goals on the page are fabricated so why not Hub Goal??

And my paycheck cleared yesterday so who cares for another 2 weeks?

Career discussions that Darius mentioned will occur over next 6 weeks and finish in June. You will be asked if you will move or relocate yourself and family. If you say no, no more promotions. And if you aren't 1-2-4 in 9- block HPD you also won't get any promotions. So if you were a 5and won't relocate your career is over

Why Charlotte, and not Atlanta? Makes sense to me to locate IT where our software center is. Either way, the South will rise again, yee haw!!!

I was told all Band 4 leaders will need to be in Charolette from IT. So VPs, Director for sure and maybe even manager level will need to go to Charolette over the next 3 years. Starts with VPs and we can see their decisions.... better to leave than get their huge bonuses??? Actions speak louder than words. Resume updates underway.... LinkedIn profile remodeling started

IT goal page is something they setup on SharePoint that has all the 2019 goals and reports progress. One of the goals is % of IT Employees in hubs. 2019 goal is 90% in hubs

Other goals are ther too like % of apps in cloud etc

When Engines Design department was decimated and Mexicali given the charter to do the work, you had to be there to believe how screwed up everything became. Layout designers and checkers (remember when we had those?) needed 20-30 years to become proficient, and even6-8 detailers took a number of years to get with the program, and this was in an environment where you could walk 50 feet and ask someone who knew the answers. Mexicali didn't have anyone with any experience -- they meant well (mostly), but just didn't know what they didn't know. Stuff had to be done over two and three times. A task that would have taken a Phoenix designer 6-8 hours took these guys 24 spread out over nine weeks as Phoenix people tried to unscrew it up. This was ten or more years ago, so I imagine the same sort of thing is going on all over the corporation now. Time to sell your stock --- actually well past time.

OP writes, "I work in IT and trying to get anything done with people in the developing nations is very difficult, and impossible if you need it quickly."

I do not work in IT and I cannot agree more.

I seem to recall that when HON outsourced their IT to IBM back in the early 2000s it was sub-contracted to a company in China owned by the Red Army, who basically had a heyday with access to company data, of which eventually the VP who implemented it was forced out to save face, and that whole outsourcing agreement was sc-apped.

Am I correct or is my memory faulty about that? That was a long time ago.

If correct, yet another brilliant move.

Yes mobile means you will up root your family and move with your own money. Some special people get move packages as outlined in HR Direct but you need to be special. Like under 50 or under 45.

Even the VPs of IT didn't want to move Only BH and small TG left and I bet they are preparing their own exits. If they are both here by July 1 it would be a surprise. I bet HON is plotting a big outsourcing like they did in early 2000's. 90% of IT was sent to IBM. Even though they are trying to insource SAP Basis, it is probably short term.

Going to get interesting soon.....

Does "mobile" mean that you are willing to up stakes and move using your own money? Can't deduct job related moving expenses any more.

Listen to the first 10 minutes of the Honeywell town hall. Darius says in the first few minutes your manager is going to ask you if you are mobile or not. This isn't just IT.

Yes. You can go to the IT goal page. % of IT employees in hubs is a multi year goal.

It's not a secret but they don't bother pointing it out to everyone. Eventually Phoenix won't be an IT hub either once Charolette is established. All Ebands and Band 4s in IT from USA will need to be in Charolette in a few years per the secret goal
