Contractor let go after 5.5 months with Amazon

I signed a 9 month contract with Amazon. Things were looking good, I thought this may turn into a permanent position. Anyhow, I was let go about 5.5 months into it - there was no advanced notice, I was just cut. They released three contractors on the same day - we started around the same time?

Do all companies do this? This is my first contracting job and I really do not know... Is this a common practice (here is the door, thanks, bye)???

From a coworker here at LG who was at amazon for 2 years, he told me most teams were designed to compete against each other, and therefore foster a me first type of attitude and relentless pursuit to outdo/outwork the other teams. I was also told this was esp true at lab126.

however, if the term of the contract was 9 months, I don't know how they can legally terminate it before that.

that's why they use contractors in the first place - they are easily eliminated. you cannot let go internal resources using the same method, you need to follow the process, hr, rules, regulations, etc. everything needs to be documented to the nth degree. with contractors, it's easy - can be done a in a few minutes and nobody cares.

just move on and find a regular job if you cannot stomach the contractor drama
