The cuts happened,chances are there will be more, but what now? I don’t see any proof that Ford knows what it’s doing and that layoffs were a strategic move to point the company towards a road to a better place

EU and China don't have a ton of oil or oil conglomerates running their country
The industry is changing EU and China are going electric big time. Ford is dumping cars in the US as Japanese own that market anyway and focusing on what Ford is known for - trucks. The rest is mainly for global strategy. I don’t agree with all the electronics in the vehicles JUST INTEGRATE our smartphones. Come on.
Ford is still way too big and will cut again next year and the year after and when the recession hits the rest of pensioners will be history.
It’s called a cyclical industry this happens all the time.
We've had layoffs before...nothing new here. Then a few years ago we went on a hiring spree, to bring in the younger generation. Now we do layoffs. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I have seen almost zero direction from this company over the past 2 years. Programs are being cancelled/delayed left and right. Investments are being wasted. Personal career trajectories are stagnating. Morale is down. I suspect things will improve once the cuts are finalized (just based on probability - more opportunities for fewer people), but the outlook is unclear.
I still have some (diminishing) hope that we can find some short term direction in expanding areas of the business (AV's, EV's), but that's about it.
The cuts are still happening. I think Ford's plan is similar to the other Big 3. Electric cars, automation, shut down production in US and move it to cheaper places, China, blah blah blah.
Is there any rhyme or reason to the cuts? Not really. Ford is overstaffed with expensive people. In our org we have at least double the number of people we need, each person owning their spreadsheet of data that they update sporadically and keep reusing on status calls.
I think this year is the first of many "redesigns" as Ford gets small enough and profitable enough to sell itself to a company like Amazon, or merge with another auto company.
Just my burnt out, cynical opinion...
