Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Block scheduling changes

After our club announced preferential hours are given to the longest term employee which i think is fair. Now they are goi g back on that and now saying longest in the current position. How is that fair to people that recently changed positions, but have been with the company longer than most people?

Do people in the Sam work group but different positions stay in thy he positions they are trained for. For instance member desk and door greeters are in same group. Could a greater be scheduled at the desk with this system.

As it stands now, a great majority of the full time positions in the club will work every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The way things were in this regard are over folks, and they will not being going back like they are now or previously have been.

Bottom line, you and I work in retail, and Friday-Sunday are the most important days to be fully staffed. If you are able to find other jobs in retail that do not have our companies new approach that most all full time associates work every weekend day, go for it, I am truly happy for you, good for you. If your new block schedule now seriously restricts seeing your loved ones, by all means look elsewhere. As I have said before, it’s ok to be upset, mad, hurt, sad and unhappy with the changes that are happening. But at some point we need to be adults, recognize that we ultimately have s responsibility to our loved ones and ourselves to provide the best possible life we can, and for most associates the job we currently have has more advantages than disadvantages.

Our company offers many things that other companies can not offer. I encourage people to explore the opportunities that are available at Walmart if Sam’s new block scheduling no longer works as well for them. Check out the many distribution centers the company has, many have opportunities RIGHT NOW for Monday-Thursday 4/12 hour days. They also have Thursday through Sunday early shifts available. Overnight people - most Walmart’s are still open 24 hours, call and ask to speak to a manager and see if they need 3rd trick help. Same thing with DC’s, they are 24 hours, and most struggle to find people who want to work overnights on a permanent basis.

Will changing divisions, working hours, working every weekend be easy for any of us.... no. But it is not the end of the world, maybe you have to work 6 months on a shift you do not like, but chances are if you stick it out, there will be other opportunities right around the corner. Good luck to all my fellow associates, we are in this together, lean a shoulder to lean on, offer to trade a shift with someone who is sitting in the break room wishing they could have a certain night off to do (blank) with their family. Take one of the pieces of pizza that you get at the cafe and ask someone if they would like it. The little things in life that cost little, can mean the world to someone else, God Bless is all.

@YYli1km-hry Is absolutely right, thank you for clarifying. The seniority issue will only affect the implementation of daylight stocking and the reclassification of all job codes into 4 groups:

Member Experience

Merchandise

Fresh

Specialties

(Actual group names may be a little different)

After June 22nd, future job postings and actual job interview selections will be made based on most qualified candidates, just like previously. When a job opened to be filled, the position will list the shift start and end time, the days of the week that are to be worked, and what the days off will be. This will be for full time positions, since that is what block scheduling accomplishes, set work hours, days and off days.

But also they say that even being a long term associate in your department u still have to work weekends .Your days off u pick are not guarantee. U will get first choice in mornings or evenings.

ok here is how it is working ...it is both time with company and by position. The managers like always are poor communicators.

Each person is being told which work group they will be in. Within that work group the person with the longest time with the company will get their choice of shifts and days off from the available days off and shifts that apply to that specific work group.

so conceivably a person in one work group may have longer tenure than a person in another work group but get a less desirable shift /days off combo.

once everyone is in a time slot and things progress workers will have the opportunity to change their schedules and days off by either waiting til someone in their work group vacates a slot or by moving to a different slot in a different work group.
