Leaving the building if you are closing shift

I was told that it is company policy that everyone had to leave the building at the same time if you were closing. If my shift ends before others i basically have to be stuck in the building until everyone leaves. Anyone know about this? Managers have let us out before.

We were told to help some other areas after we finished our area, it was usually groceries and or softlines that needed help. When the whole store was zoned we left. Got extra hours because of it, then would be told I had to cut hours later in the week!

They cannot lock you in the store and refuse to let you out the definition of kidnapping is the unlawful confinement of a person against there will.

I don't see the big deal. It's extra hours on your paycheck. It has been like that for the cashiers at my store, since I was hired a few years back. A bunch of us go out to eat afterwards.

It's always been that way in our store. Called Zoning. You close, you stay and straighten up the store: pull boxes, fold clothes, sweep, carts, whatever, until the store looks decent, and then when management is satisfied, you can leave.

Why not go out the back? Our club we help each other out so we can all leave.. it’s not new. If someone is being lazy tell the manager. If you have finish their work or help someone else .

So why are we being forced to stay and help others? Locked in and told we are not allowed to leave until everyone is finished, and we have to help the people who are not done yet.

I believe the way it is worded is that it is a suggestion for safety to leave in groups. Not a requirement.

I think they're closing that gap as well. They started not letting us out. If I'm finished with my work, I have to go help in other areas to get them done. S---s because I've gone to help others and they're just being lazy and not doing their part. Now I have to clean up the slack so I can go home. Just more of the lazy people getting away with being lazy and the workers having to work more.
