Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

My nightmare is finally over!

I gave my notice yesterday! In 3 weeks, my BNYM nightmare will be over. I accepted a job elsewhere offering more money , and it's a less stressful position. I've been with bny for 9 years now, and I have weathered a few storms and many rounds of layoffs. The company is not what it was when I first came on board. Many brilliant and talented individuals have been laid off simply because they are older and made more money. My particular office is overrun with temps that they hired off the street with little to no work experience. It's a shame. I will miss quite a few of my long-time co-workers though. My manager, my VP, they are like family to me and have been very good to me over the years despite all the changes within the company. I was able to learn, grow , I was promoted and received a lot of opportunities to shine over the years. So my time at bny has not been all negative. I do want to put that perspective out there because this Message Board is primarily about negative things and I want to illustrate that it's not all bad all the time. I also want to reiterate to all who are reading this that no job is worth your health or sanity. I had to look for jobs elsewhere because my job at bny became so stressful that it was affecting my physical health. Knowing when to cut your losses and put yourself & your health first isn't always easy, but you have to know where to draw the line. To all of you are currently looking for other jobs and trying to get out, just take it one day at a time and keep at it. I interviewed for quite a few jobs and received a few offers, but I held out until I found something that I felt I would truly like and something that also made Financial sense to me. Do not just jump at the first opportunity you're given. Make sure it makes complete sense for you and your life. I'm looking forward to starting at my new employer. Good luck to all!

Dedicated workers with a good ethics will always be welcome elsewhere. My time came 6 months ago, when I left with a handsome package to shut me up. Within 2 weeks I found a much better position and I am thankful for that every day. No more stress, no more narcissistic manager, no more screeching voices. I am blessed. I wish all those left behind at BNYM the best of luck, and I hope you find yourselves out of this mess.
