Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Older employees at more risk

From what I'm seeing, majority of people who were laid off in the past several years have been over fifty. There are some younger folks in there as well (can't make age discrimination too obvious,) but it seems pretty obvious that the goal is to specifically get rid of those who have higher pay/benefits.

So if you are over fifty at BoA, you better have an alternative ready.

Older workers still do better - never mind less energy (plenty of younger folk dragging around).. Better than no brain or skill or intention to acquire any. Let me tell u about some of the new “techies”. More like people with no interest in technology or working for that matter. They are told there are money to be made in the field and all you need is a degree - pay for one if you have to. Then come the recruiting companies playing both sides for profit. Nepotism is prevalent. Connections are everything. The interviews are rigged. People care only for their “community” - whatever that means - collaborating or team work extends only to potlucks, walks, socialising the internet deals, kids and new cars/house bragging. Less work and more faking it.

Older workers cost more and usually have less energy and don't always do as they are told. Since the bank does not take any calculated risks at expanding the business anymore, expertise is not really important any more and so the menial activities are probably best done by the inexperience young workers fresh out of college and preferably of a diverse background.

this is very true. i witnessed this same pattern firsthand in our office. the middle managers will deliberately take steps to weed out the more experienced, higher paid workers. some of it is subtle, but some of it is in-your-face blatant discrimination and favoritism for younger workers. management loves to use fear tactics and high pressure on older workers to force them to quit.
