Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Is somebody lying to all of us?

Our department was told that they will meet the 30% with attrition this year. That logically tells me we are done. Is somebody lying to all of us? And if they are, why would I stick around with people who can’t be trusted? What game is this exactly?

Think that @YgAfKfw-1gfp asked all the right questions in this short post.

“The layoffs are over. It was gut wrenching, but necessary, and there are no plans to do any more layoffs. This is the team we’ve chosen to move forward.” Lance and Beth 2017 Town Hall.

I honestly believe they think headquarters staff have limited options in Omaha, so they’ll stay put and field personnel will never leave because they won’t make this money or retirement anywhere else. But memories last, especially in smaller metros like Omaha and smaller towns all over the franchise...

We may not have gone to the Ivy League school Lance did, but we’re not stupid.

The whole point of the attrition from this point on is for several reasons.... 1. The company can save face from announcing more layoffs than they already have lost. 2. They don't have to cover unemployment and insurance if you quit. 3.it greatly reduces the risk to further harming morale than what has been done. They did not factor in the blind hatred, retaliatory response, and discourse from what was a fairly loyal workforce the moment they turned their backs on us for profits and shareholders. 4. It further allows the playing of the political blame game it's not them it's us.

MAKE NO MISTAKE THE COMPANY IS ON A KNIFES EDGE RIGHT NOW....

In 2017 Lance Fritz told everybody, after yet another round of layoffs, that "these are the people we're moving forward with". Implying that yes, do not believe a single word any of these people say.

Depends on your definition of lying. UP executives are like politicians that say “I misspoke” when they got caught saying something that wasn’t true. If your definition of lying is someone being deliberately misleading, withholding information, and spreading propaganda, then yes UP is lying. Ask yourself this question: Is precision scheduled railroading about making more money or about safety? So why when UP discuss PSR do they use phrases like “we owe it to our employees to build a safer railroad” or “we owe it to our customers to....”. It’s not about safety or better customer service, it’s about profits. But it sounds better than “hey everyone we are actually just a bunch of greedy people that care nothing about our employees or customers, but please don’t regulate us anymore because it will interfere with our ridiculous profits.”
