Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Don't think apple making a modem is any challenge to Qualcomm

Don't think apple making a modem is any challenge to Qualcomm . Its probably easier to throw money at lawyers , media and politicians and get results you want but a whole different story to be competitive in modem in a reasonable timeframe. And even then they still will likely need to pay royalties if qcom wins the anti trust cases. It's great for us engineers though to have demand for talent in the marketplace . At least while it lasts.

Maybe a little off topic, given that it doesn’t have a lot to do with layoffs, but definitely an on-point post by @Yg2CblX-1lic

@xgq

Most of the serious hiring of modem people has happened in the last year...they have been getting many key people....they won't keep failing if they keep hiring the best from Q.

Management is asleep at the wheel for allowing this to happen!

Apple already hires the best people. Their hiring bar is higher than Qcom's. However, their SW capability is not at the level of other top companies. From what I've heard, they can't execute. I've been hearing they've been developing a modem for years. Surely a company with their skill set and resources should have a modem by now. They are not going to deliver a modem.

The problem is that Apple is hiring the best modem hw and sw engineers from Q.

I am also seeing the nab the best RF IC designers as well.

So in products that would have launched in 2-3 years, Q might have a hard time innovating at all.

They are targeting a slow death for Q
