Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Have faith in our leadership (yeah, right)

I was talking to my manager yesterday about the direction GM is headed and he told me to have faith in our leadership, that all of this is done for a reason. I really wished at that moment he was not my manager so I could tell him exactly what I think about his "have faith in leadership" nonsense.

Honestly, is there anybody who truly believes what's being done is for the good of the company and its employees? Or is it being done to fatten the wallets of those on top?

Exactly a year ago before all these layoffs, in their earnings call for 2017, GM leadership had explained that even though they exited several markets to get rid of non-profitable areas of the businesses, the structural costs remained high. If you don't have a degree in anything related to business or a concept of how business works, then you would never grasp the next step that GM took....which is to reduce structural costs. To a lot of people, especially those that get canned, it's an unfair process. But then again, only a fool thinks that they have a job for life in any place. Business climate change, politics change, company leaderships change...so no, sorry to the those who got laid off but GM leadership did the right thing to get ahead or be in step with the curve. Victim mentality will not help but a business degree would, at least help you understand all this.

Being profitable is a good thing nobody disputes that ever , so why did they fire so many talented people and why wasn't the executive and management hit the hardest first? Alot of people we're randomly let go. It's because GM can that's why.

GM has never been this profitable ( and consistently so) so your manager is on to something. There was a time GM was the biggest car maker in the world, but was that a good thing? I think being most proftable is the correct path so yeah....have faith in leadership might not be bad answer after all.

If a manager cannot succinctly explain the company's overall strategy in about 2 minutes or less, they don't know anymore than you do... so, "faith in leadership" is like hoping that drilling a hole in a sinking boat will allow the water to go out...

It's a pathetic company run by subhumans, because I'm having a hard time finding work I would have to return if an opportunity presents itself , would I stop looking once in ? Hell to the No , it's a paycheck and that's all it's ever been. Last summer I had the opportunity to apply for a move within my own department, well my manager refused to rely me from my role , I was contract and this would have made me a blue badge , I had almost 18 years , next thing I know now I'm fired because of them cutting out all contract folks , talk about a one two f--- you punch. I'm one of those people that love automotive and always eager to learn and work hard , I didn't show up to sleep and d--k out early every day like I saw others doing. My boss is an absolute tool bag and you know what ! He still has his job , and his technical "specialists" Don't know how a transmission or an engine operate , how a valve body works , what's a clutch plate ? People that don't know how a cooling system works on and on and on! Or the 80 year old uaw yum yum pushing a cart around for 8 hours a day that looks like a zombie , refusing to retire ! But let's randomly fire people because , well we can. GM is run by stupidity day after sickening day.

What f**k of the faith in the leadership? I gave up my 16 years of tenure in another Big 3 and joined GM. I thought I had faith in GM. I had long term commitment with GM. And then all the sudden, my faith was killed and discarded from the ship. People survived in GM don't have faith anymore. Just a paycheck.

This is so ridiculous that they were talking about faith after a ruthless layoff.

Seems like a cult of personality rather than rational thought.
