Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

How can we work to our maximum ability with the knowledge that we are next?

Some of us may have managed to survive these layoffs, but they have certainly shined the light on the new ugly face of the company. There was no logic, no criteria, no appreciation for what a certain worker can bring to the company. So there is definitely little comfort.for us who got to stay. GM made the layoffs without a higher purpose or plan. Today it was them, tomorrow it will be us. How to give 100% to the company, knowing that?

Work with the understanding that you're living in the movie Office Space.

Work just hard enough to stay in the middle of that middle box in the 9-box. Aim for meet expectations. GM deserves the same level of loyalty from you that they give to you. i.e. work for the paycheck. Don't work extra hours. Don't do email from home. Don't answer your phone at home. Unless you've been pre-chosen for a promotion, make your way to a 7A and enjoy the glide into retirement.

If you're GM IT, and Randy Mott stays in charge, there will be more cuts there. Guaranteed.

For long term employment at GM be a 9-5 implementer but do not develop or suggest a better mouse trap. Wrap your mind around money for time that is the bargain.

Outside of the office develop your better mouse trap and sell to competition.

As long as you're willing to work for the same competitive salary they pay employees in China, you'll be fine.
