As a former GPI employee (I left when they sold out,too many backstabbers in the company) I keep my eyes open. Two of the former GPI Carquest stores that were changed into Advance stores are now Carquest again. Also they closed one of the original Advance stores that was their biggest by square footage located in a very busy area with all the car dealerships within a half mile. That area is now covered by O'riellys and Autozone. My take is that business is hurting. They have ruined the Carquest name. GPI wasn't perfect but a damn site better than Advance.

Same here. Worked for GPI and was the last one converted in Baltimore. Lost 50% of the business including the paint in CARMAX. PAPA (local parts chain) changed name to CARQUEST (franchised from Advance) and is now cleaning thier clock. Now Advance put in thier payroll systems, benefits, computers, product etc.. and they are going down hill.
Yea and they keep destroying the Carquest name. They get rid of great guys running the company and promote egotistical a-holes to the President spot. ( JW )
No surprise to me,I worked in a GPI JV store that got changed over. We lost almost all of our commercial accounts because they dropped good selling lines and replaced some with cheap junk. I went to work for a local NAPA and got to deal with those customers again. I don't think changing the signs will help any.
