Some things not making sense to me about the goings on. In the past we were told to keep a certain ratio of Ford employee to contractor as we would release contractors if belt needs tightening. What I have observed is Ford employees going before contractors. Very different beast this time around.

Also I have observed technical specialist LL6 and LL5 releases who were the SME and goto people to solve problems. One I know they approached to come back as consultant but he already had a new gig and said no thanks.

Our LL5 told us some consultant told them who to lay-off and they had no input. Since that makes no sense, it is most likely not true. The LL5 made the call and is hiding behind the consultant.

It doesn't make sense because Hackfat has no sense. Remember, he hired Harbaugh. How's that turned out? Little results and um just lost a very good basketball coach because of Harbaugh's unearned heralded status. Oh, and Hackfat's old company Steelcase ain't doing so well either.

Dude leaves a trail of destruction..... You should see a bathroom after he's through laying a load!

We didn’t request interns this year, despite several pleas for groups to take interns. Collectively we felt it was not a good environment for interns.

The funniest thing (heavy sarcasm) is that the annual summer interns are due in around mid-May as well. Their "supervisors" are actively getting their cubes and such in order. The same supervisor who may not be there a week after they start.

So in the midst of all this turmoil, those remaining will have to help shepherd around someone still in college as they try to make a good impression and get an offer of employment from Ford.

What a farce and such a great way to make a positive impression...not. The morale will be historically low. I actually feel bad for the interns. Not their fault the company is in shambles right now.

Ford employees have legacy costs - anyone before 2004 has a pension. Ford employees also require health care, life insurance, vacation days, etc. All benefits increase costs and must be administered. Agency and purchased service is a flat fee. example: if you pay an agency head $80k annually, then it is $80k annually. A salaried employee with an annual pay of $80k? The cost is more like $110k annually. Go to your annual compensation breakdown, you will see it is more than just salary.

What's the rationale or basis for saying that this will be a yearly thing? If so, I'm out. This should not need to happen routinely in a properly functioning company.

Some contractors will go but this is a FORD firing project. 15-20% will go 10% in the first wave this month the rest in May.

Then it will be a yearly purge for a few years.

Yes it seems like this “smart redesign” is targeting Ford, not agency or purchased services. I’ve never seen this before. Agency always went before Ford in every other layoff. This one is not making sense.
