Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

What happens after the season is over?

Call me paranoid, but I tend to think that they will use that period, when all comes down to perform more layoffs of long time employed full-timers, rather than letting go the newly employed part timers. What is the realistic possibility of that happening?

As a former manager we were always told to performance manage out the permanent employees that s---ed and try to keep the good seasonals. Any seasonal employee with an attendance issue was automatically let go regardless of how they did when they were there.

Layoffs and firings are two different things. Layoffs are when the company dissolves a position and you are terminated regardless of performance. Firings happen all the time based on many factors. If you have been there a while and s--- at your job, expect to be fired if you've been written up a couple times. If you come to work on time every day and aren't on a write up then there isn't really anything to worry about. If the company decides to change positions and store structure again, it will have nothing to do with the seasonal hires.

I'm a pessimist and I'm calling you paranoid. They just won't fill the positions of those that quit or get fired. It's death by a thousand cuts and staffing will be at a absolute minimum in all depts. The difference between old Lowes and Blue Depot is that there is more freight and less bodies and hours to work it. And it's all well and good that they are doubling the SPA team but I find it laughable when 7 of them dusting and cleaning grills for 2-3hrs when there is 8 pallets of freight in receiving just from my dept alone.

I'm not sure. I have open availability and can work up to 20 hours a week due to a disability, but have been cut back to 8 - 10.

It does not look to me like they want to depend on having any employees.
