Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Layoffs not having the desired effect.

I wonder if it's like this at most of the yard? My yard we cut all the young guys in the craft what we left is older guys. Must decline OT and really don't work as fast as the young ones laid off. Therefore we're not turning over as many units and it's taking forever to get units out. Did no one see this coming?

They closed our diesel shop and now complain that all the locomotives need maintenance

Considering I'm hearing from buddies in different departments across the system, yes. Our location has had 5 derailments last month alone and do far the last 10 days looking like we're on track to do it again or worse. And apparently one buddy in mech tells me due to mgmt rushing work on units they f---ed themselves on a engine change out and blew the damn thing up. No break-in just notch and go! These units have to work! No wonder our ppower seems to be going to sh-- whenever we have to haul out and highball.

Sh--... There is no motivation to work at a fast pace... Everytime i go get something done quick a foreman or manager would defer the task before i could sign it off...

Ever since the layoffs started, Somebody keeps on crop dusting everyone in the crew room. Lay off the beans girls.

Can't spell Stupid with ....

Getting people off the payroll and out of benefits is what it's all about. Actually operations efficiency...no one really cares.
