Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Were any H1B Visa Holders Let Go?

If H1B visas are so that GM can hire specialized talent that is not available locally, and if those visa holders are doing the same work as other salaried employees, then shouldn't the visa holders have been the first ones on the chopping block?

I know the handful of visa holders in my department are still here.

Were they working on a green card when they switched?

So much ignorance,

H1B employees can switch jobs if they really want to.

Many of my friends went to Amazon, Apple and others while on H1b.

4kkp, did getting laid off put your h1b visa at risk?

Was it easy to find a new job that would handle your paperwork?

They should have let them all go.

That's what they advertise.

That's not the reality.

H1b visa people aren't there because they relieve skill shortages, but because they work cheap and it's really hard for them to switch companies without having to start their green card paperwork again.

So it's basically indentured servitude designed to keep wages down.
