Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Hows life at Sears Corp Headquarters in Hoffman Estates?

What's going on at Sears Corporate Headquarters?

I used to work there as one of the vendor/consultants. I was there back in 2003 or so just at the time K-Mart took over.

I live near Sears Corp and took a ride to take a look. It's a massive corporate campus. It looked like about 1/4 of the parking lots were full and some of the buildings were closed with lights out.

What's life like at HQ these days?

"Lively and bustling."

This is some dark humor. The only thing true in the statement is that there is an immense push for hiring and apparently there is budget for it. But no one wants to join the company. Even contractors are reluctant. Same at the technology and management openings too.

"Right. So many places to take a long nap without being disturbed by co-workers."

I was there when K-Mart took over as a consultant.

One of the things they did was remove the couches and chairs near one of the places where you could buy food. (I think it was in the main building near the conference rooms).

I also remember the Blue vs Red business card war.

Offices had business card holders. Folks from K-Mart put their RED business cards in the holder replacing the BLUE (Sears) card that was once there. It was therefore easy to identify the "enemy" that had taken over this or that office/position.

Again, I was a consultant in the time before and during the K-Mart Takeover.

Before K-Mart, my experience, was that Sears employees enjoyed working there. People were friendly, and some employees had been there nearly there entire working careers (30+ years). It was a beautiful place to work on a well manicured golf-course like campus.

"Lively and bustling"....

If that is not sarcasm, I don't know what is....That rosy response sounds more like a description of Walmart, or another successful company's home office....Definitely not an accurate description of Sears.

Lively and bustling. There is a new energy in the air thanks to Go Forward and new innovative products are being designed under the Die Hard brand. Softlines also has a new energy.

Hiring has resumed and a large number of skilled professionals from competitors have expressed interest in joining our transformation. Sears is the new hot name in retail technology.
