Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Food for thought

Let's put aside our differences in opinions for a moment.

I know there are those of you laid-off here and are unreachable.

Most of the posts/predictions here are decidedly garbage.

This message is for those who are on both sides of the fence.

Oracle, notwithstanding your grievances, gave many of you years of employment and will continue to do so for many others.

When it was time to let go, Oracle gave you a fair severance for years served.

This site, however, is just exploiting your grief for ad revenue and, now and then, some Jr. reporting fodder for a back-page article.

I believe some of the posts here are manufactured in-house. And some factual posts are purposely trimmed to incite and continue a narrative.

This post will most likely be removed.

But keep in mind who is exploiting who here; who has most to gain. Oracle remains unaffected no matter how many predictions and chicken bones you throw to the wind.

Well said. Further, To the OP, Nobody is forcing you to post or to read it. And everything exploits me for revenue. Even your Beloved Oracle does. Do you think they give that junk away for free or do those intrusive audits out of the goodness of their hearts? This site is a service and every service requires revenue to stay afloat. If you don't like the service, stay away. simple. And I personally hope your posts stays in perpetuity. So others can respond as well.

OP forgets (or does not realize) that a large portion of visitors to this site do currently work at Oracle. We aren’t here to troll, nor are we here to bash our employer. We’re simply looking for the heads up that we never have or ever will receive from within our chain of command.

We’ve witnessed the decline first-hand over the last 7-9 years; the shrinking team sizes, the shrinking workloads, the shrinking budgets for anything deemed non-essential to whatever the mission at the time is (currently migration of on-prem to cloud). Cube and office space that was 90+% full in 2012 now looking like ghost towns.

Everyone who supports on-prem knows their days are numbered at Oracle, but not what that number is. Could be 2 years, could be 7-8 months. Sometimes this message board helps to figure that out for specific teams/orgs. We’re all smart enough to filter out the garbage, the trolls are simply circle jerking themselves.

Is there BS on this site? yep. Are there trolls from Oracle on this site? No doubt. Are there people who come here to vent? Of course. However, there are also some great inside, some interesting inside information that has come to pass and there have been some very interesting opinions. Sometimes it is hard to separate out what is what but most of the time it is very very easy. My advice, is to ignore the BS and Oracle trolls and read the interesting stuff. That's the problem with anonymous sites, it can bring out the real raw truth and is can bring out the cowardly bully. Just keep seeking the real raw truth.

Here’s a deal for you OP: I will stop participating in the discussion on this site when the 3 stooges leave oracle. Talk about the deal of a life time. What you say?

Some of us come here looking for insight on where things are going with respect to the job situation. We see reorgs going on and are often affected by them, but we know nothing, but there are people who do hear what's happening and share it. I mean this web site is called "thelayoff.com" which gives us a hint of what people talk about on this site. Oracle is one of dozens if not hundreds of companies with an entry here, so Oracle is not being unfairly picked on.

Obviously not everything here can be taken as gospel - not the doom and gloom, "Oracle is dead get out now" nor the derisive posts calling them the "tin foil hat" crowd are worth that much attention.

There HAS been good information posted here, which is what keeps THIS reader coming back.

Oracle doesn't want the world to know its American employees are being replaced with cheaper Indians H1Bs

Also keep in mind that this site reported canning of solaris and that major media outlets quoted it. So, its much more than some Jr person babbling randomly.

Pay us well, stop shipping jobs offshore, and stop f---ing with our benefits while siphoning tens of millions of dollars in your own pockets - do this and posts on layoffs dot com will stop

Looks oracle has decided to make a concerted effort to sh-- down the discussions on this site. Stories hitting too close to home for the 3 stooges? Don’t want the world at large to know how screwed up oracle is and how far behind it lagged in cloud? Dream on oracle HR! We’re here to tell the truth to the world outside

" does this site allow them to let off steam, which could be therapeutic?"

Talk to your family, friends, dog, neighbor. It's scientifically proven better for you than social media.

Because the site is largely anonymous its impossible to know who is truly an ex-Oracle employee. They are probably plenty of trolls and 3rd parties posting here.

I'm not convinced this site is exploiting ex-employees grief. Lets say someone is bitter about the way the Oracle laid them off, is posting "I hate Oracle, they are terrible and will soon go bust as all the good people have left". Are they being exploited for clicks or does this site allow them to let off steam, which could be therapeutic? It's probably a bit of both but I don't believe any long term harm is being done.

At worst this site might put off people from becoming Oracle customers, but considering all the marketing telling people what a wonderful company is I would think the impact is negligible.

"Sure this site exists to make money but so do pretty much all social media sites."

Purely exploiting one's grief in doing so? And there are clearly better and modern sites than this one.

Making money is not wrong; one is free to decide. I'm just pointing out what the situation is.

I'm not sure what your point is? Should interested parties not discuss the future of Oracle?

Clearly some post are purely apocalyptic nonsense but there is some interesting news and opinions being shared.

Ultimately you aren't going to find a completely bias free forum discussing any topic so you have to look at as many sources as possible and reject the more extreme views.

Sure this site exists to make money but so do pretty much all social media sites.
