Just wanted to have a consolidated place for current layoff discussions. I have heard rumors of layoffs in M&R but I'm not sure of the validity.

They just did another layoff on Wednesday. Management layoffs. 117 employees. They built the web sites for members and providers to use, That is business and I understand that. Coming from a technical background, automation is where everything is going. BUT, sending the remaining jobs to India and Phillipines for Support and Technical Support, that I have an issue with. We are very capable to do those jobs in the US. Why are they giving jobs to other countries? MONEY. I am talking govt. contract of Tricare and Medicare also. They have another layoff coming in November 2019 and another in March of 2020. By the end of 2020, most support jobs and office closing will be done and jobs will be overseas with the exception of the management jobs in Minnesota, most likely. Please call your reps and the news media to let them know. Also, make sure you don't support UHC by selecting them as your insurance carrier in 2020. We will never have to worry about a data breach again. Other countries will have all of our data if we sign up with UHC for 2020. If they are not going to support the USA by having jobs here, we should not support them by buying their insurance. Many other companies out there with just as good insurance that keep American jobs. Please support the employees, not the companies. Let everyone else you know about the layoffs so we can either keep our jobs or have people use other insurance companies so they can create jobs to keep America working!
What departments did this effect! What salary grades?
I was M&R and was fired March 2019. 18 yrs. superhero nominee. Made me so upset. But after a week and cleaning out the computer and apartment revamp and Marie Kondo-I got everyone said Hey you don’t look depressed anymore! Ha! Nothing like a fresh start/involuntary escape to wake you up to how bad it had gotten. Just a few months later coworker still there cried nightly hating her job and burned out - she considers company at a new low in morale and called company “evil” so she left to come work at my new company that I jumped over to. Now another coworker is attempting to interview also to leave. And many old coworkers reach out in fear of what is going on. How can anyone get work done in such a stressful volitle environment? Either they like you on edge or they try to speak calmly to fake that rumblings around the company are true that it’s falling apart at the seams. Somewhere the place got greedy and inhumane and it wasn’t always that way. Coworker and I that have rehashed events realized that in 2012 it went south because it was then we admitted to each other we were burned out. That was 7 years ago. Only in 2019 did we leave!! I don’t hear of droves of people leaving voluntarily but that’s because they have WFH and are so depressed in their current position they lack motivation to barely log in when workday starts. This is a health are organization. Why don’t they care? Of course it’s money. But if they lay-off more because we are older and more experienced I guess we can do unemployment for extended periods. Overall an unmotivated employee will never quite return to be motivated. For older workers it’s done, just a job for a paycheck nothing more. There is something weird as well because at new company I am at the new lady I met in department said UHG/Optum folks were the main admissions to psych hospital she worked at, meaning UHG employees were main utilizes of all the various type company employees she treated. That says it all! UHG folks are run to the ground mentally and I’m glad they seek help but wow even more proof company doesn’t care. What is in store next for layoffs? Most recent I heard of was from training room in new company the lady was from UHG customer service/member services. Said whole department let go. She is now a new appeals coordinator and happy as a clam.
UHC will find an excuse to fire you instead of a lay off so they dont have to pay severance
UHC Clinical consolidation with Optum clinical layoffs expected before final move in 2020.
What other departments will be affected? And when?
Firing across the company. No warnings. Good, dedicated, tenured employees are fired. Loyalty means nothing to this company.
It’s true. All Print Fullfilment audits are bring decommissioned
There definitely have been layoffs in M&R some people on my team were let go.
