Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Marketing VPs

Just wondering how we are stacking up against our competitors with our sales team. Hear B.S. in Chicago is leaving? Heard health is concerned for one VP. Other VP covering northeast from Wisconsin really makes sense. And mid Atlantic region being covered by a Chicago rep- has anyone ever heard of living in your territory.

I've seen a MVP promise the moon and the stars. By doing so, the store was so handcuffed with financial pressures that I question the wisdom of completing the deal. The Operations folks are then expected to move mountains to generate revenue and meet the unrealistic expectations. At times it seems as if the goal is to have as many flags on a map as possible rather than to create partnerships that are of value to both parties. It is these ego moves that result in contract losses at the next renewal.

This was not an isolated instance, but an observation of short-sightedness that I am sure still exists today.

Not a joke, an MVP once told me, “...it’s not my job to make money in the stores, it’s yours. It’s just my job to get contracts.”

The MVP's give away the store during their negotiations. They don't understand that there is only one other player (B&N) in competition with Follett. B&N abandoned Florida Memorial and we swooped in and took on the same bad deal that B&N walked away from. Why? Why? Oh that's right, the MVP gets a commission for signing a new contract. They do the same when Sodexo walks away from a food service contract.....they take it on even though Follett is horrible at running food service. The head of the marketing team is a family member so this will never change.

MVP’s do a lot of telling you how busy they are and that they’ll get you the information or contract or amendment that you’ve requested multiple times as soon as they can. Then they blame you for not giving them something they need even though you sent it to them several times, and the cycle continues until the campus contact calls them directly to ask why the RM hasn’t given them what they need. Then they send it to the contact and look like the hero. MP is especially skilled at this.

B.S. is retiring. As he should, lost many accounts and threw many managers under the bus.
