Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

More people leaving

I’ve heard about numerous people walking out the door recently to other companies. Pretty soon it might just be easier to call Suncor Cenovus 2.0, most of our employees are ending up over there. Maybe they know how to treat employees a bit better or they’re leadership maybe looks after their people vs themselves and their own progression up the chain. CVE refuses to acknowledge what is a basic fact, people leave in most cases as a direct result of their leader, yet they refuse to deal with problem mgmt. There are people in leadership positions who should just not be there no matter what training you offer them. The people that are leaving aren’t even getting exit interviews from what I’ve heard. Sometimes you can’t fix what is broken and you need to clear out the mgmt that is leading to people walking out the door. Lots of others are looking as well from the water cooler talk.

20 for 20 will be based on the price of oil and not on the abilities of anyone in the company.

Anyone who believes wcs can get to triple digits is a fool especially with imo 2020 policies coming online soon

Anyone who thinks that $20 for 20 is ever going to produce is a mo–n. Which scares me because I think our VPs really do believe it will happen. Or just like the Conoco deal they have to tow the company line and pretend it’s all a good thing.

My manager is pretty useless and likely his boss too. I bet if the company cut out two layers of mgmt nothing operationally will be impacted. Save a quite a few bucks too in the process.

A lot of mgmt I find just delegates because they actually don't know how to do the work themselves

They have cut worker level bonuses but left manager bonuses untouched. What do managers do at CVE. We all know they do nothing but kiss the upper management’s behind. They match your RRSP deduction with a losing stock value. They do not give out raises or promotions because of the current environment. Yet they hire in absolutely useless areas. Sinking ship.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking AP cares about doing the right thing. With his blogs and $20 for 20 days BS. They have done the analytics on this and know there’s not a snowball chance in &$)& that this will happen. He along with his CFO pal are in it to make &$$. They are busy buying stock low with delusions of grandeur that when pipelines are built they will make more $. That’s all these people care about. They don’t care about the worker. Lies. Lies and more lies. Honestly get out at your first opportunity. I’m working for a company that is alive. You don’t realize you’re in a dead organization until you leave.

What I don’t get is why Alex is allowing useless groups that add nothing to the bottom line to go on a hiring spree. Meanwhile the guys that actually work out here in the field are told to s— it up and slave away. Do more with less kind of thing. But meanwhile we need more communications people?
All the sensible people are leaving with this nonsensical stuff going on. Two main completions guys left a week ago.

We all knew this was coming. It was just a matter of time. For all the the talk of culture change, very little had been done to actually change the culture. The same incompetent senior leaders are in the same positions, providing the same terrible leadership. AP knows very well who they are but does nothing to change it. The company has gone stagnant. Those who toughed it out are now in a position to move on to other things as the economy picks up. There will be more departures to come without a doubt. The good news is that senior leadership is well aware of this issue. But will they do anything to change it......doubtful.

Well another smart guy quit. Going to another company with a promotion. His CVE leaders told him he’s not allowed to speak to others without a business partner, maybe because he was too smart lol

Lucky you still have a job?? People are lucky they are finding other jobs and the exodus will continue after everyone is done with summer vacations. Just wait until September, I know for a fact there were others doing interviews recently.

Good old KD, does whatever DZ tells him. Cut his G&A to the bone to make AR happy and makes the remaining staff do 2 to 3 jobs then tells them there’s no advancement opportunities. Great company.

Simple answer = Yes they are that stupid

I was talking to someone in the EHSR group the other day and it seems even more people are interviewing for jobs. TransCanada is taking all our best it seems.

Our HR won’t look at any mgmt as a problem so yes they are that stupid. 20 people could leave and they still wouldn’t care. Just pull out the old tired line of entitled employees whining and be lucky to have a job.

CVE hser leadership = ineptness and the management = bullies. The VP thinks he’s. ‘relationship-builder’ because he’s got so many supporters and he spends all his time taking the other vps and evps for little one to one meetings. He thinks he’s invaluable because he saved the company 35M is ghost emissions. Costs (ya, he did that all by himself right? No his staff did. He took the credit). He tries to come across as if he cares for you and then he cuts your throat. He only wants ‘yes men at his table’

And then there’s his management. Liars. Bullies. Manipulators. Try to use the ‘I’m just a farm boy’ persona and then hope that no one calls them out on their outright lies. Think those stats are real? You’re fooling yourself if you do.

Question is: why have so many left hser recently - and not just anyone, but their stars.

Question should be: ’ why is that VP ( his incompetent leader) and his band of merry men managers (no skill or competency whatsoever) still around. Are you that stupid CVE?

I wish I could leave. There’s nowhere for me to go. I don’t know Suncor or CNRL are any better really - being bloated can’t make for a great work environment but I do hope someone who’s leaving will eventually poach me. I’m looking for jobs outside of the sector, so are about 200,000 other Albertans. I feel absolutely miserable every day at Cenovus and there is nothing I can do about it. Pretty sad state of things.

Like the post says. They refuse to look at themselves and which mgr is causing people to leave. Must be the entitled employees which are the problem, no way could it be the mgmt. I mean look what they did, cut bonuses for everyone below mgr level but mgr and above stay whole. That’s because they value mgmt and not the employees. That simple.

Another EH&S staff left. What's that? 5 in 6 months? Get it together and open your eyes. When the EH&S VP refers to his own actions as draconian in our townhall and we retain group leads that prefer to intimidate and manipulate to get ahead, then there isn't hope except for a takeover and better cultures.

Yeah. That tired old line. 100 people waiting for your job. Threats. Manage by fear. People please. For the good of your health leave. That place will give you cancer. I left and it’s the best decision I ever made. There are jobs out there. And you can actually make more money and have a decent supervisor. Life is too short. Don’t walk. Run. That place does not deserve you. Management knows and they do nothing. Suncor will be taking it over eventually anyway. CNRL will take deep basin and suncor will take the rest. Just waiting for the debt to get under control. Not kidding. Runnnnnnn

We were just talking about this today. Heard the ehs group lost another one. They’re running from that group. Could it be the incompetent leadership and management? Must be if what you say is true about leaving leaders. When is leadership going to wake up and go there’s a problem! Are they falling for the ‘our safety record has never been better’ c-ap that’s being told?

Anyone with half a brain knows that safety isn’t measured by the absence of incidents, except these goofs who believe their own rhetoric.

We are rookies. It’s embarrassing that industry laughs at us. Good for the ones who are jumping ship. I’m hoping to get off of here soon too.

Yes those entitled people who are so petty as to want real leadership. Wow how dare they want to develop and be treated fairly.

You said it right you have money and they will get a paycheque, but not much else. That should be your new slogan. “ Come here for the paycheque” , that should draw in exactly the kind of employee you deserve.

Man am I glad I don’t work there anymore.

Good for them! They can take their I'm too special and entitled attitude else where. Everyone is replaceable.

Hundreds of people will be lining up for their jobs. We have money and everyone wants a pay chq.
