Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

80% cut in IT, then relocation to NC/Greater Raleigh

80% of remaining XDX / XIM will be let go by year end (times to assure 401k match doesn’t occur). This from reliable planning sources.

What happens to the remaining 20%?

1) They get an “offer” to relocate to a nerve center. For most that will be North Carolina. Many have received these “offers” already, which essentially boil down to “you are good, but if you want to stay at Xerox you have to move south”.

Once you arrive in NC and begin training your replacement, you will be either laid off or given another relocation offer to a geographically distant location. This is the HP way of avoiding severance- they know many won’t relocate over and over again. Google it- many HP folk were told they could only keep their job if they moved. Those that moved got asked to move again, or wised up. XRX leadership today is former HP who for some reason didn’t stick around after “transforming” the company. Think about that one.

2) Many employees are already actively looking. When those lookers witness the 80% bloodbath in 2019, those without a better-than-others neurosis will move on. A sensible decision I might add. Those remaining believers would be your shipmates if you stay, furthering the growing workplace idiocy and toxicity.

Leaving now allows job search success probability. One you lose a job, for whatever reason, you become a stigma regardless of what you may want to believe. Those with jobs have better chances than those without.

I’m not sure GIS is in scope for nerve center relocation. Webster IT move is now validated. Other non-mfg orgs in Webster getting asked the question now “will you relocate to NC?” Seems unless you are directnsupport for toner or remaining skeleton manufacturing that you’ll be elsewhere by year end.

Glassdoor.com just popped up a GIS "IT Support Specialist" job semi-local for me and upon research I found this whole site and topic. Wow. I worked a competitive copier brand more than a decade ago and thought I was interested until I see this looks like a sh**show. I have seen the relocate for work and the job moves again thing also and its not just HP... 2 jobs ago we were purchased by a joint US-German company and they played that game. HQ moved from North Chicago to Atlanta and then within 2 years out by Henderson NV or something. I made none of those moves!

The average house price in Raleigh is 236k. Mind you Raleigh is a HUGE area. Some areas are well under 200k. There are more job opportunities in the "Research Triangle Park" aka RTP than probably all of NY State. So if you're looking to switch companies you'll have plenty of companies wanting you. I've lived 15 years in the RTP (Currently living in HI) and it's a great place to work/live.

No one in my group (about 28 people in Webster) has said anything about an ultimatum but one manager was saying housing in Raleigh is effectively unaffordable. Sho she knows something but isn’t talking for once.

You mean the 1400+ app count that app owners couldn’t reduce because outsourcers are the only ones who know what can be reduced, but are disincented due to profit motive? The ones targeted by numerous application rationalization projects? Those apps? Those are internally facing apps supporting sales, quotes, billing, receivables, inventory, etc but are not “customer facing”. That’s why the whole renaming of XIM to Xerox Digital Experience seems like an uninformed one.

I’m not surprised. Employees are terrified. John V has people fired for asking the wrong question, even privately. Tino rules by intimidation. Shankar remains oblivious.

Get put now, especially if you are in Rochester. The local economy can't handle the IT unemployment. There aren't enough jobs or you'll be taking a major pay cut. I left several months ago and have been happier than I have been in a decade.
