I know of several instances of techs being forced to install TV service in Jessamine County, KY.
This is an area where no cable franchise agreement has been made with the local government, yet Windstream ignores that fact and has been pushing the boundaries, One upcoming event is the Barbasol Golf tournament. Management is aware of the situation, but insist on illegally carrying on activities. The local county attorney has been made aware.

I only watched the first minute or two. Immediate reactions:
• On the one hand, the vintage Windstream pickup truck in the video is really, really old
• On the other hand, at least it looks very well-maintained and preserved. It's probably had worn-out parts replaced as needed.
• Still seen in a few small towns
• Probably doesn't go fast but at least it's reliable for old-timey tasks

Do you remember when Win gave away free Roku boxes. That was the dumbest ever. Hopefully done by a high school worker. Imagine encouraging 30 people to stream over 4 T-1’s. Showed our network for what it was 3rd world and Corp that did not have a clue. All they did was buffer.
The streaming Windstream is offering is the same as the tv content they offer now. The platform they are using is MobiTv. No way would Windstream ever offer their own content. The videos that they “produce” for the employees to watch for safety or other training are a joke.

I don’t know if streaming is a good business for Windstream or not but they have places where their internet service is fast enough. I’ve got Windstream fiber to my house in Concord, NC and I stream stuff all the time.
I just get the data pipe from Windstream; I subscribe directly with Netflix.
Is Windstream talking about offering its own streaming content or reselling somebody else’s (like Netflix)? If they’ll resell stuff cheaper than I can get it directly, I’m all in. If not, I don’t see the point of buying through them.

I’m surprised the company is still trying to do tv service. I mean they jumped into a technology that was on its way out the door (traditional tv service) then decide when the product has become to obsolete that they would get into streaming tv service (this is something they should have originally gotten into). Then when you factor in the price for each package; they have effectively priced themselves out of the market. Sure there will always be some dummies that don’t shop around but the majority of people will know they are getting ripped off. I’ll take my Hulu Live and pay $45/month while you try and sell me the same thing for $75.
Spoken like a manager...I guess you call a Roku box a set top box. It’s a streaming device. The original set top box we provided for tv (still do) is a set top box that is not streaming capable therefore it can not be considered OTT. From everything that I have been told; the service we are installing for the golf tournament is going to utilize the original non streaming set top boxes.
We provide a set top box with the OTT service.
But it’s not OTT. It is being delivered via set top boxes...just like the original tv product that we launched. If it was through the streaming app then maybe it could bypass the franchise agreement. We have been told time and time again that we are not to install tv service in Jessamine county.
If it's OTT it doesn't not matter. you think Sling, Netflix, or Amazon has franchise agreements... Nope. That service is not considered broadcast and isn't regulated by the FCC only the lawyers representing the content owners.
