Thread regarding Pioneer Natural Resources Co. layoffs

Feeling like a red-headed stepchild

Did you notice that news are all over the Ford layoffs and we barely got a mention in the past two days?

I understand that Pioneer laid off fewer employees, but still, layoffs are layoffs.

I guess we are not as interesting or as attractive subject to cover as auto industry giant is...

Ford employees are UAW union workers, so the liberal media gives them all their attention. It’s tragic when a liberal is laid off, nothing to report if conservatives lose their jobs. I saw this in the 80s, 90s and the 10s. Nothing new to see here folks...

A mid-sized oil company laying off only 230 employees...that definitely is not worthy of national news. The 230 employees themselves are not newsworthy. Don’t understand the OP’s complaint.

actually the Dallas Morning News had a story about the layoffs

"Pioneer Natural Resources laid off 230 employees Tuesday as the Irving-based driller works to cut $100 million from its overhead.

The layoffs at its corporate offices in Las Colinas and the Permian Basin are in addition to 300 people who took an earlier buyout described as "generous.

An internal email posted to TheLayoff.com, a website that tracks company layoffs, said 160 corporate employees and 70 in the Permian were notified Tuesday morning. Police were present at the company's corporate offices to escort affected employees off the campus."

Plus most of the population has a general dislike for oil and gas for one simple reason: the money they have to shell out every time they fill up their cars. Hard to generate a lot of sympathy with folks who don't understand the business or don't work in it themselves. But coverage of the further decimation of American manufacturing prowess? That is something that touches many more individuals on a personal level.
