Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

2019 UHC Prov. Services Layoffs

Various segments of the Provider Services departments with United Healthcare have been told in rolling meetings that the skill queue was being downsized as it as moving in a different direction. The reason, providers are using the website UHCProvider.com more than they are calling in.

I am certain, claims will be having these meetings in time because the majority of the work the website goes overseas to India.

We were told there are other departments that would be willing and able to pick us up, however, the company will not assist us in getting these positions. Moving around in United Healthcare is next to nill impossible. Many of us have multiple years, some decades working in provider services. We do not necessarily stay by choice. We are paid something resembling a living wage, and many of us work from home. These are perks that are not readily found on the outside.

The share holders did this about 15 years ago. The only reason they brought back American jobs is because the big hospitals, i.e. Weill Cornell, Mayo Clinic etc. b--ched about having to deal with Indians and threatened to pull their contracts. The share holders have succeeded this time. Pure technology with no offensive accent to get in the way.

In the mean time, over 500 reps are in the dark.

@ZepyU59-Seat - The whole tense of this post is silly. If they are a former director, how do you get a meeting with them? How can they advise you of layoffs if they are a former employee? Just silly.

Just had a meeting with former e&i director. she advised us of layoffs that occured but of course left out the important details as to whom these layoffs affected.

so it's most likely those customer service/telephonic roles first as frontline always gets cut first. i feel so bad for everyone. this is terrible when the future outlook is unknown. the pay is already barely above a living wage and they really aren't helping anyone secure new roles.

My whole specialized team is being eliminated and some are being absorbed into other provider services functions....but not all. Due to threats of Medicare for all from the Democrats and eliminating the ACA by Republicans the whole industry is in a panic and stock dropping. This is purely a money move preparing for the unknown the industry will face to be more financially stable when whatever hits. But it is shareholder motivated as well.

This is so true. Resources in foreign countries have access to member and provider data. Data is exchanged with external companies by internal resources that are unaware of the laws. Everyone is afraid of upper management and stay silent when told to do something that is not legal. Everyone is afraid to speak up.

Please tell your elected officials that people in foreign countries have access to confidential information about tens of millions of Americans

It's time to call for an investigation!

If your job was moved to India, please read these articles and contact the reporters who wrote these articles

If these reporters wrote an article about these companies, they can write an article about our company too

is it true that this company now has more jobs in India than they do in the US?

I am certain our front end reps in e&i will also start being laid off. There are huge hiring classes for patient representatives happening in the Philippines right now. I assume that only the elite reps will remain as they service companies which require specialized service.

There wasn't a timeframe, number of person's affected ? They wonder why morale is so low.. people are always under stress waiting for the axe to fall. Why say anything at all if they couldn't provide the Who, What, When? Can't wait to return back to work tomorrow from PTO and expect a silent work environment filled with fear.

Yeah, had my meeting on Wednesday. Was not told what percentage they cutting back provider services or a time frame.

I just don't understand. At least once a day I'm told by a provider that they are so happy to be speaking with onshore and that the HATE talking to the offshore reps.

This is a huge mistake UHC! You get what you pay for and your offshore reps are awful. Good luck.
