Due to a long over due of inefficiency work force, salary workers without any work to do, multiple failure new program launches, poor management, unqualified salary workers, unmotivated salary workers, salary workers taking advantage of the company - its time to make the change for the better. Ford will be better, stronger, more efficient , and profitable after completing the Smart Redesign process.

Second “ The culture has not changed.” It has only become more entrenched.
It will take more than “a leader with backbone.” It will take full replacement of
LL1-> LL5 and many of the LL6 and GSR. And importing leadership from outside of Metro Detroit area.
I am fully disgusted by how this SRD has occurred. I am not alone. Morale is very bad. Many have dialed back their work to a few hours of work a week.
What I observed was the entrenched politicians, protecting their own by
-
lateral moves of GSRs from less favored LL6 to most favored LL6, then releasing out of favor LL6
-
promotions of LL6 to LL5 to increase reports to LL4
-
fake bad PRs to out of favor employees
-
smear campaigns against out of favor employees
-
giving credit to in favor employees for out of favor employees work
-
demotion of in favor employees into out of favor employees spot Then releasing out of favor employee
The end result was that those employees fighting the good fight and doing all the work were released. The proportion of entrenched politicians increased. This signaled the remaining employees that are true believers and hard workers that Ford does not value them either, as they emulated the behavior and respected the people who were released, not those who remain.
I see many people, probably trolls, bad mouthing those who were released. I can tell you it is a badge of honor to be released. It means some inept LL was threatened by your competence and respectability and decided to eliminate potential competition.
I am dealing with survivor guilt, who knows I may get the axe in June. I do know that I spent the weekend on my resume. I do not have a pension, I can vote with my feet.
Sorry for the rant. It has been painful to realize that I need to leave Fords.
There are a lot of dead weight at Ford for the past century. The culture has not changed. It's possible to change the culture, but it will take a leader with backbone.
Smart Redesign will now incorporate the downsizing of 30k, not just 7k, per Wall Street:
Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas issued a report, a rebuke of Hackett, suggesting that the automaker needs to cut 23,000 jobs to achieve its profitability goals, three times the 7,000 that the company announced on Monday.
The company must cut "a further" 23,000 salaried jobs in the near term to fulfill its goals, Jonas wrote Tuesday.
"Ford disclosed that the 7k headcount cuts will save $600 million annually, or an average of $86k per worker," said an investment report dated May 21. "Our (calculations) ... require more than a further 23k salaried headcount reductions."
Hackett is there to cut employee numbers..for wall street investors ...Tesla @$230 a share never making a profit... Ford @$14 on a good day...making a profit...makes sense.......he's not picking names...the ones just above those let go are picking them...do you really think he cares?!?...he "peace out" with his massive golden parachute D.B. Cooper style
@jap. I am in same situation. It’s currently a mystery how victims were selected. Non-victims say you are so lucky to be out of the frying pan. They say when it is their turn to be a victim, all the good jobs will be taken by the early departures. Still it is hard to feel special and lucky with a boot print on your arse ;-). Best of Luck to you.
Nothing will make Ford profitable. Everything from the transmission issues to the start problems to the low mileage warranties. Ford had decades to change to become more nimble and cut costs like their Asian counterparts but they waited. Now our Asian counterparts are building cars in the US and the age old 'buy American' holds about as much water as the continued hearsay that the best truck is the F-150. The cuts may help Ford in the short term but long term Ford won't recover considering that most being laid off will never even want to buy a Ford again. If you go south you will see that Ford is the exception rather than the rule on the road.
My brother-in-law was asked to leave, it appears he was not agile in attending daily stand-up meetings & being a team "rah-rah" player. Unfortunately, divorce papers were also waiting for him, he was already years behind on child support & his wages were garnished.
I wish that were the case. I was let go and I got great reviews, was independent, efficient, cooperative and always learning new skills. Most weeks were 60 hours just to keep up because they kept piling on the work. I am older with a pension. Some say that was a factor but who knows how the victims were selected.
FMC needs a leader.
If they are looking at unqualified and unskilled, lazy employees... Look no further than the UAW!
Electric cars require one third of the workforce that currently make Petrol Diesel vehicles. Do the math.
You sound like a low level HR staffer or marketing rep.
d---beats left. This I know for certain. I see them operate everyday. LL5 + LL6 keeping them around providing maximum overtime and allowing them to sluff off. These GSR's know who they are LL5's + LL6's included.
It is a shame to see people who really make a difference and contribute given their walking papers.
All this will continue because the same so called leaders of the business units who helped Ford get to the position they are in now "Re - Designed" this next organizational structure.
If Hackett knew how this good ole boy gang rolled it could have been much different.
Product Development
If all the true “dead weight,” like poor performers and unqualified managers, was purged I would agree with you. But in many cases, good, dedicated, skilled and resourceful employees and agency resources are getting the axe while many of the useless, overpaid managers and clueless, unqualified employees and contractors are being kept because of a lower salary or billing rate, younger age, etc. Decisions are being made by a consulting firm that employs a Ford executive’s son. The consulting firm has little insight which managers, employees, and agency resources are most efficient, most resourceful, most dedicated, and most flexible and able to easily adapt to new roles. They are primarily looking at numbers (age, years of service, salary) to make their decisions. When the company loses it’s critical knowledge base, you’ll see many of those cut being offered the opportunity to come back, as was the case with the cuts 10-11 years ago.
sure it will, just look at how well it worked over at GM!
