Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How long did it take to find a new job?

I would appreciate to hear some job hunting stories from ex Ford employees that go laid off? How long did it take to find a new job? Did you apply at competing car companies or have you moved out of the industry ? How hard was it? Of course, im talking about the folks that were laid off earlier this year. I imagine no body found a job that was laid off last week.

Software Product Manager - It took me about 2 weeks to get a handful of interviews. 30 days to first day at the job I chose after getting multiple offers. Move quickly, and apply with the mindset that 10% or less will respond.

Took a voluntary package in October 2017...had a new job by January 2018...nice long holiday break! Use Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn to find out what employees are saying about a company...choose the type of culture you want to work with and go from there...

GM layoff if you would have the incite.

Four months exactly. I was the first round of ALL layoffs, so I was not in competition with anyone outside of that layoff. Three job offers, took the best. All three uniquely wanted different skill sets on my resume.

Corporate is slow. They aren't just slow, their embarrassingly inept, this is the mindset of HR of today. Their fear of hiring the wrong candidate trumps hiring just someone, that can be trained for the job. In this market, and in my offers, employers had lost a new hire because they were too slow. Their delay, was too my benefit.

I've been hired on the spot before. Those days appear to be very long gone. Paranoia has overtaken all corporate HR.

It took me about 3 months after I was laid off by a Tier-1 supplier. This was several years ago when the economy was still emerging from the recession. Figure on taking about 3-6 months if you are seriously searching. YMMV but your age and qualifications seem to be a deciding factor between whehter you get hired a few weeks after you get laid off or whether you stay unemployed for a year or more.

Age discrimination is alive and well despite the the very low unemployment rate. I was laid off late last year and have yet to be offered employment (and I am in IT)! I am not even that old in my humble opinion - 55!

Chrysler is hiring - now working in Auburn Hills, had to purchase a Dodge (Hellcat) with the severance pay.

Laid off earlier this year. Still looking for a job. Not going well but then again, I'm selective about what I take and who I work with. Figure I'll either get something soon or wind up an alcoholic. Either is fine with me at this point to be honest.
