Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Indeed there are better Opportunities Outside of Honeywell

It has been well over a year since I left Honeywell. As an over 50 band 4 MIP compensated engineering employee I had thought my options were limited and my future dim. At minimum I thought I had to move to be able to maintain what Honeywell was providing.

I was wrong....

I was able to find a new position outside of Honeywell that provides

  • Paid overtime. (None of it forced). Anything over 40 is paid.

  • Real Medical benefits

  • low low monthly costs

  • low deductables

  • No Biometic screenings (no penalties, either)

  • Company actually contributes for Dental and Vision

  • 401K plan with a large number of investment options which includes a match which is not held for a year.

Did I mention that I get profit sharing? (AKA MIP)

Finally, my base pay is higher than when I was working for Honeywell.

And my commute is 50% less.

It baffles me as to why anyone would continue to work for company that

  • Is under constant austerity measures. The sky is always falling...

  • Requires 15-20% Free overtime

  • Only provides catestrophic healthcare coverage (Large premiums, High deductable,

  • Forces employees and their signficant others thru the threat of financial penalty to provide biometric data .

  • Does not contribute 1 penny towards dental or vision.

  • Holds ones 401K contribution hostage until December 16 of each year. If laid off or leave for any

reason company keeps the promised 401k match. I hope all current empployees realize this enables Honeywell to at its own discretion decide to delay, reduce (remember that 8% dollar for dollar match that was temporarily reduced during the great recession only to be permanently reduced 9 years later?). Remember how long it took for the 401K match to return to 7%?

  • Generically uses negative re-enforcement as a motivational tool.

Most companies that I had offers from (Start with R, L, U, and the one I ended up accepting) all had better benefits and working conditions.

There is life beyond Honeywell and yes it can be better.....

Did the same at the beginning of the year.

I was band 3 so no bonus at HON,

New job has an incredible bonus yearly plus retention bonus at 3 yrs.

401K is matched quarterly and fully vested immediately.

Additional 6% a year into 401K in lieu of pension.

Base salary increased by more than 20%

And probably best of all, I now work for a company with actual ethics

Why anyone stays at HON is beyond my comprehension.

OP is a Honeywell ALT member salivating on the success of his plan to dump everyone with more technical knowledge than he has.

Allright, I missed the mark on that last post. The new combined company will be named "HWGE" (pronounced "HUGE"). The combined company tastes the same, but is even less fulfilling.

Just think of the useful sentences this term can be used such as:

"I had a HWGE one dropped on me today".

"It's another HWGE fustercluk".

"My manager is a HWGE _".

RLU is not a combined aerospace company YET. Give them 5 years and there'll only be 2-3 companies left. By then Honeywell and GE will be paired up into "HIGE". Then the taxpayers will REALLY know how to be fleeced. Every program will be an F-35-style debacle.
