They can't block transfers if you've been in the role 1-2 years.

IT Directors/Management have been known to block internal transfers

Safe to join? Yes. Good to join for 1-2 years to put on resume. Not something to count on as a career though. If you get in either plan on leaving cisco or transfer internally to a more stable BU if you want to be around long term.

Let me level with you... Unless you NEED a job right away you'll do much better finding something else.

No matter what BU you are in, your ability to play politics will be much more important then how good you are at your job.

Think about that for a minute.... Your success will not be if you are able to perform well, your success will be how well you can socialize, sell yourself, and put down others.

If this is something that appeals to you then go for it you'll be very successful if you have any technical skills to back it up. But if you want to do IT, get a job that will reward you for work well done.

Cisco IT is not safe if you are located in California or North Carolina. Without performance reviews, you will need to build strategic alliances to survive all the re-orgs in IT. Highly political environment.
