Reports in the news says auto stocks dipped because of new tariffs on Mexico. Is this going to bring Mary down or more hard-working GM employees?

Tariff will hit GM hard disproportionally more than other OEMs. I predict more layoffs.
Ask yourself this question, will tariffs lead to poorer middle class Americans or Trump's impeachment. The latter is not happening

If the layoffs are a result of tariffs, then it should happens all across the board in all OEMs.
Mismanagement, greed, short-sighted gains, politics, "us vs. them" mindset at the upper-most levels... these are the reasons.
If tariffs raise MSRPs, then people will start shopping around and buy used cars, and someday those in the glass castle towers will finally realize that making food cars is about being productive and efficient, not kissing up, doing favors to buddies or playing middle-school politics.
Simple we got fired because of the tariffs, instead of jacking up vehicle prices to make up the difference, Mary fired us instead and Ford is doing the exact same thing. FCA hasn't done this because they are already steady with head count. GM vehicles are already over priced and the consumer isn't going to pay extra so the employees pay the price of massive job loss meanwhile Mary gets her pay and doesn't take a pay cut or the CFO or Ruess. GM has used every excuse they can muster to put Americans out of work and have succeeded. They have no interest what so ever to re-tool Michigan plants like D-ham, sure they could build the new blazer there or build something new in Lordstown they simply wont. I support FCA and will buy those Jeeps! And gee hey now all of a sudden GM is benchmarking the Jeep! This is why Barra and her drones need to go, I had a manager years ago tell me, we should have bought the Jeep brand. Duh! I want to support my friends and colleagues at GM but the issue I have is I am supporting a greedy CEO instead that goes on a mass firing spree! My personal experience at GM was good, I worked in a great group with excellent people, I am a car guy that loves the performance parts catalogue and LS series engines, I always appreciated GM heritage and beautiful classic cars they made and the people that designed and built them, Zora Arkus Duntov gave us the big block and high performance cams, he was the father of the Corvette and it was his dream to have the mid engine Corvette to complete in the racing circle. A Japanese man by the name of Larry Shinoda gave us the Mako Shark Corvette for 1963, those are his design's under Billy Mitchell in the secret skunk works design studio in Warren. The Trans Am sold so many cars that production couldn't keep up with demand and that's a fact. I was proud to be apart of GM and it's history so when my contract house called me and said, You're services are no longer needed, my heart broke. All I know is this these CEOs and managers are so far removed from actual humans it's a sin, for me being at GM was much more than a paycheck, to all of you folks that are out of work I hope and pray for all of you and your family. 😞
It's all about saving money, not quality, not the skills of the American workforce.
Mary cut 85% of my team including me. I was working on Mexican Products wiring harnesses and we had 100% defective, shutting down production. After I left they assigned four people to my work. The hardest thing was when the Mexican Engineers called me and said they are not worried about losing their jobs it is only for Americans.
I heard that China is working a list - unreliable entities. As GM has a long term relationship with government & military, it should be in the list. Hope that GM will survive from the trade war.

Even if a car is built in the US, it likely has many Mexican parts. Manufacturers aren't hurt if everyone raises prices. It might force some to by used, though and lower revenue.
The other automakers aren't making a huge noise about the whole tariffs deal. Even FCA is relatively quieter about tariffs. But why is it that only Ford and GM are making such a big deal about it? Seems like they know they're going down anyway by their own undoing, and instead of owning up to their own mistakes, they're blaming everything on tariffs.
The government can make 1000% tariff for everything imported to the US, and the US will win trade war, can we do that?

Tariffs won't make GM open new factories in the US. Costs are too much lower in Mexico for it to matter.
If you can pay US workers, say, 40 bucks an hour and pay no tariff on the product they make that needs 20 hours of labor, or pay Mexican workers, say, 5 bucks an hour but pay a 25% tariff, it's still cheaper to use the Mexican workers.
But you'll still pass the tariff (tax) on to US consumers, so prices Americans pay will rise.
But we won't get the jobs back.
