Just read the email...the move to the Energy Corridor is postponed indefinitely. What the heck is going on? Rumors are flying that we will be moving to the Woodlands, and some are saying we may stay at Greenway. What a cluster!

OXY probably calculated what they would have to pay Anadarko employees who could elect to take a “Change of Control” Package if they moved offices more than 25 miles from the current location, and then said nope, let’s stay in the Woodlands. Sell off CP. Laying off OXY employees is cheaper than laying off Anadarko employees.
Yeah, if Oxy moves, I'm going to move on also, and for exactly the same reasons.
Personally, I'd prefer working in a real office in one of the Anadarko towers over the cubicle farms Oxy was planning on Dairy-Ashford. Even if you were lucky enough to qualify for a "real" office, you wouldn't have any silence (because of proximity to a cubicle farm) or privacy (because of the "big brother" glass door).
Unfortunately, driving to and from the Woodlands is not an experience I'm willing to subject myself to everyday, and I'd never move my family to the Woodlands because of genuine concerns about job security related to Oxy's financial future. So, if Oxy's new plan is to use a Woodlands move as a mechanism to thin the herd, they'll definitely be successful in my case.
I don't like it, but only because of distance. If I could live closer, I would love it.
I do think it's the best decision for the company, even if it isn't good for me personally.
The COP campus is too small and open workspaces s---. The cost of renovations is high. I hear the Woodlands towers are very nice and are basically move-in ready.
Based on what I've heard, I believe Oxy is moving to the Woodlands. This will be good news for the Anadarko people. Oxy will probably lose a lot of people who don't want to move to retirements and voluntary layoffs. This will mean fewer IV layoffs and Anadarko people won't have to move.
How do you Oxy folk feel about potentially going to the woodlands? Is this preferred by you guys over the ConocoPhillips campus?
For what it’s worth, the woodlands towers are pretty awesome. A little pretentious but the woodlands is really nice to live in.
I’m not an executive but I play one on you tube and we are entertaining tax packages from both locations.
I can almost bet the woodlands township and Montgomery County are offering some enticing incentives or tax breaks. Anadarko is very involved in the community and brings in a lot of $$$ to Montgomery county as the county’s largest employer. It would be a big loss to the community if they lost all of that. So they are for sure doing their best to entice Oxy to move there.
No offense, but if you are really an executive with inside information, then I would expect that you would know that her name is spelled "Vicki" and not "Vicky".
Unfortunately quite a few folks have already relocated out west in anticipation of the planned move to CP. Some are not as flexible with those having bought homes, established kids in new schools, etc. The Woodlands Bldgs are a much better deal for OXY employees, given the office space, offices for all instead of those open spaces that were being planned and which everyone disliked. Plus the APC bldg has a nice workout center, but could certainly use some expansion with better equipment added. Also it is worrisome, being out west given the easy sudden flooding among areas lining the Katy freeway.
Be careful with pride, Pride always goes before the downfall.
If Oxy moves to the Woodlands, Vicki would have to expect more attrition on the Oxy side. This would reduce the amount of layoffs that will be required overall.
LOL, OXY will not move to CP, period. I am an executive - name left out - and have insider information. OXY Execs looked at the offices at CP and liked them, very much. However, they looked outside the building in the general area around Energy Corridor and go cold feet. This is the area where the two large water reservoirs are located. Then they went and looked at Woodlands builds and said “Little flooding here, and the offices are in great location, and looks great.” Vicky then said, lets look at Woodlands as our headquarters. There was a coffee bar talk later where she told a few of us, what great pride she would have - gloating - to have OXY logo on one of the buildings, pointed at XOM and CVX headquarters further south. Plus, she can claim OXY is the furtherest north of all the O&G companies in Houston - looks like a pride thing with her at any cost.
They probably got an inside look at the woodlands building and said “wow”
The email did not say that the move has been posponed indefinitely.
Hi, I'm a journalist at the Houston Business Journal. If anyone is willing to forward me that email to jmann@bizjournals.com , I'd love to see it.
Almost like the company doesn’t have a clue on any level for anything. Some people still surprised.
I hope they tell us where our office will be before they offer the voluntary severance package. I would hate to turn it down and then find out I'm being moved halfway to Dallas.
Century park is not happening. Some OXY staff will relocate to woodlands. Those buildings will be barely half full when the acquisition reaches its terminal phase. Thankfully grand parkway exists.
