Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

The Woodlands

So with the email today, is it a fair assumption that we will be moving to The Woodlands when the GWP lease expires? Business wise, I don’t see why we would spend $400 mil renovating the old COP building when Anadarko already owns 2 nice towers. Thoughts?

The Anadarko towers are really nice with two gyms, one has a full basketball court. Two cafeterias with decent food. Both buildings have a Starbucks. They are Walking distance to the woodlands mall so you can shop on your lunch break. The water way is a nice place to walk or run.

That $400m renovation is now budgeted as severance to the Anadarko Executive Committee.

Maybe after the the employees come on from Anadarko the majority will not be living in Katy anymore. I don’t care if it is Century Park or The Woodlands as long as we get out of Greenway. Those buildings are not very nice and could us a total makeover. The carpet on some of the floors looks terrible and the ceiling tiles have water stains all over the place. They would be nice offices if taken care of, but they are no where near the standards of buildings around Houston and the Energy Corridor. I drive around 3 1/2 hours each day to get to work, so having a nice office whether in the Energy Corridor or The Woodlands will be an upgrade. I will go where they need me to for the paycheck. Long commutes are just part of living in Houston.

Why couldn't they sell it gutted? The buyer would have probably needed to do that anyway. The place was a dump and was falling apart. Now the new owner could buy the campus at a deep discount and remodel it to their own specs.

Why would constructing a new building put the move on hold?

Oxy already gutted the COP campus. Duh... I don't know if they can sell it like that, so I will take a guess that they are considering constructing a new building at the COP campus. 'Nothing wrong with the Woodlands buildings, but as stated in other posts, most of Oxy's employees don't live in the Woodlands, most live in Katy, or Sugarland and points in between.
