Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle aked me to come back

I was laid off a few years ago and interestingly they now have asked if I would like to come back. I find that a bit ironic. If I was to go back am I just setting up to get laid off again?

I don't work at Oracle anymore but while I was there I knew of at least one case where they RIF'd someone and then asked him to come back, and he did. He had very specialized knowledge and was older (so maybe 3-5 more working ears) so I think it was win-win.

Oracle doesn't ask people to come back. I'm guessing the situation is more like you developed a good working relationship with a "hiring manager" who might be wondering if you would be interested in a job.

I've reached out to ex-employees that were let go. There is nothing ironic about it especially if it is a different dept. or simply that time has passed and things are now in a different place than when you were laid off years ago.

If they are really asking you to come back, they have gotten desperate. They need someone smart they can use. Must have run out of talent internally.

I'm betting this is a fake post, intended to make people think they might be asked to come back, and they should not post such negative information about Oracle.

Ship is going down. No one wants back in!

Tell them to pay you for the time you were laid off and in advance for the next 3 yrs, upfront. if they write you a check, by all means take it and go to work for them; if they refuse that tells you all you need to know

The logic checks out

If they are willing to pay above the market rate, because you wont get a raise for years.

Otherwise there is no point.

to OP, I wrote a very long story but deleted, just in case company will be able to find me. To nits:

1) If you think that's the best fit for your life and interests, go for it now

2) keep your eye open, if no new projects launched, start interviewing with other companies immediately.

Obviously, don't let anyone know you are interviewing.

Congratulations! I was laid off and would go back in a heartbeat, so please tell us more or at least give a hint about what division you were in and what your special skills are. How do you feel about your current job in comparison?

Go milk them for a short period if you’re unhappy with your current gig. Ask for more signing bonus cash. In my opinion, O RSUs will become worthless in a short period
