Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

What is this with Demotions at O R C L ?

Never heard in my entire life some one getting demoted at Ora. That too at Sr VP levels. Is it an indirect way of telling, "Bro, I don't like you and I don't want to throw money giving severance. Please do a favor for yourself?"

I feel very sad for those people who got demoted and hope they will get a kick a-- job outside

@ZxUO1nK-hic the demotions are not a rumor, some very talented OD RM’s got moved to being BDC managers, I wouldn’t label that as desirable or a promotion because the mass majority of BDC’s are children that don’t know what cold calling even means. Also OD reps were demoted to be BDC’s in a few cases. Just thought I would share some facts, not just negative bluster.

Ratings lowered with out cause? Poor chaps. Probably there is a motive.

Anyway if the hireling is really competent, he/she should be able to pickup some thing better else where and Big Red Ball will be loser

The few I know of that got demotions were promoted into jobs they couldn't handle and in the reorg were effectively dropped back to their previous level. In the bigger picture it's better than being escorted out the door as they get to keep their job and the company retains the accumulated knowledge.

If an employee can't handle the fact they weren't capable of doing the job they were demoted from then move on and see if they do any better elsewhere, at least they were given a second chance and not tossed out the door at Oracle for failing to do the job.

@ZxUO1nK-hic I don't know what you are smoking but I probably want some of that! It is all very nice and idealistic but Oracle is well past its inflection point. Customers hate Oracle with vengeance. And Microsoft style turnaround is an exceptional situation - yeah, it could happen but it would take a miracle of Lourdes proportions. Not something I would bet on.

A sub culture of self loathing sprung up, that only people from the outside or young blood could fix Oracle. The Seattle folks (and there are others) stepped into the vacuum and ran with it. As with anything in the tech industry, demographics are meaningless...its all about the technology, not your age and where you live. Oracle is a mature company that will be around for a long time. These months and years of turmoil will be fixed as the folks that want to fix Oracle (and succeed) will prevail. So demotions? If that is not a rumor? Yeah, probably necessary as Oracle takes a deep breath and rolls up its sleeves to fix some of these issues.

I am hearing that employees are going to have their ratings lowered as well...and without cause.

Not about being a good fit or bad fit or taking a different job. Their actual jobs are the same and they are adjusting their career levels downward.

On the bright side they affected peoples get to keep their current base pay.

I the majority of the cases the demotions are occurring because the Seattle people view themselves as better than the non Seattle people so they need to know the on Seattle people down. However they still need them.

I really wish the worst for the a-- clown hipsters in Seattle who continue to throw darts based on their inexperienced entitled egos.

  • A VP of software development is now reporting to a Senior director, PSM area.

  • An SVP of software development is reporting to a VP, OCI tools and developer tools area

If you are a bad fit in your job, why not take a different job where you are a good fit? Even if it is a step down. You can always look for something else. WHo know, maybe you'll like it and be successful.

What senior VP was demoted?

Perhaps not in the USA, but in other fountries, it could be viewed as constructive dismissal, and grounds to take your severance

In this case the geniuses that run OCI are demoting people into lower job levels. Not cool.

It’s their way of saying we don’t see you as an architect (ic6) so we are going to lower your job level.

Or we F’d up and promoted you to VP and shouldn’t have so you now get a lower job level or in some cases get changed to an IC.

Total c-ap.

I know multiple people who have been effectively demoted at Oracle.

I believe that in general your "career level" is preserved, but you can certainly get re-org'd into a different position with greatly diminished authority and responsibility, and a radically different comp plan.
