Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I find it very interesting that we have people verbally attacking those who post layoff rumors

This site is for people to discuss layoffs and share rumors. Being what it is I see no need for all the hateful posts when people discuss potential layoffs. People are trying to prepare for uncertain times in the midst of a gigantic reorg where the HR systems are down for days as people shuffle about.

If anyone hears anything no matter how small I want to know. The amount of really mean things being said against people trying to make sense of it is really unnecessary.

There is a lot of change this year and a lot of negative press about Oracle. It only makes sense to share the frustration here in a site built for that express purpose. No one should be called names or told they are useless for open honest discussion about what they feel is wrong at Oracle.

As far as I can tell no one came in here and posted anything that they said was 100% fact. Its all conjecture and posted as such. We do want to see what the earnings report shows, and what the "restructuring" costs will be in the year end 10-k as it is a good indicator of layoffs.

restructuring costs recorded for individual line items primarily related to employee severance costs.

No need for name calling on either side. And no one is a loser for posting here. Lets keep things objective and simply state you agree and disagree and the reasons why.

A union is a bargaining unit that exists to represent a workforce in coming to an agreement about work wages, hours and conditions, among other things.

A union is a pyramid scheme, if you are on the top tier, it works for you, if you are low in seniority, you get stepped on.

Prove me wrong!

"They probably could be good copywriters at CNN or FOX."

Or they ARE copywriters at CNN or FOX.

Is what people post here true? Dunno, time will tell. There are a LOT of companies represented on this site, so Oracle is not unique to having a presence here.

I come here to see what the rumors are. We know they're rumors, which means maybe there is a kernel of truth in them, or they could be nothing. I liken this site to the smoker's patio or water cooler, where people from different parts of the company gather and share what they heard or speculations on where they think things are going. I work in a group that is somewhat tangentially related to Cloud so who knows how cloud's success or failure will affect us. I have a plan either way. I just suffer from professional inertia; not that happy with what I'm doing, but not unhappy enough to leave. I have an intense dislike for the Stooges and how they're treating people, particularly the customers, but still I stay. If they p*ss me off enough I'll show myself out, but until then...

You need to trust in the discernment of the reader. Certainly there are some rediculous rumours floated here, but anyone who believes the obvious fabrications probably deserves their fate. No need to start a crusade against the fabricators of falsehood.

They probably could be good copywriters at CNN or FOX.

Because the rumors and the postings are not factual and some of them are clearly made up from the mind to disrupt and upset people. If there was any validity to these rumors or postings I think people would pay attention but if you read through them you can see how absolutely absurd and ridiculous they are. Anybody that reads this and buys into it as a very simple mind and it would probably be best that they were laid off. There’s very little room for people like that in corporate culture, they are weak and become because the rumors on the postings or not factual and some of them are clearly made up from the mind to disrupt and upset people. "If the admin is constantly deleting your posts.. You can just go away anytime. No one will miss you."

If you find what i say uncomfortable; you should probably move on. And I like how you speak for the collective.

Who said anything about 'constantly?' I mentioned posts in this thread. Is it like how a few layoffs is MASSIVE to you guys?

" intentions of this site"

This is rich. I could make a post about the migration patterns of pink flamingos and how it corresponds with Oracle layoffs and it'd be just about as accurate and valid as most of the predictions here.

Another thing to the Admin of this site: if you insist on deleting my posts due to whatever "standards" you are using,

If the admin is constantly deleting your posts, then you are the one who is posting content inconsistent with the intentions of this site. You can just go away anytime. No one will miss you.

So, what happened to you because of this site? Did someone "special" to you leave the company because of too many layoff rumors? Are you someone who attacked and sabotaged someone who has been posting on here, and you don't like that? Why are you sooooo p-ss-d off about what's posted here? Gotta be some reason. You have really gone berserk.

All you need to do is close your browser window and just walk away. Don't think about it anymore. Sounds like you don't believe anything written here. Why bother reading anything then? Just go away.

You work at Oracle? Don't you have anything to do all day besides post c-ap on here? Nobody wants you here. If you don't like the content, then GO AWAY!

LOL. Please do an arm-chair psychoanalysis of those who were laidoff yet continue to bad mouth their previous employer with chicken-little tales of imminent doom n gloom

So you fell asleep at the wheel. You were at ground zero yet you didn't have a clue? But, somehow, some anon on a c. 90s forum would have 'enlightened' you to your employment situation?

Goes back to what i'm saying: this is a place of the laid-off dead forming an echo chamber.

There are so many things wrong with this post.

If you can't win by being right/talking points, try to silence the opposing views by playing the victim.

Another thing to the Admin of this site: if you insist on deleting my posts due to whatever "standards" you are using, how about cleaning up all the following replies referencing my posts?

Else the thread becomes just becomes discombobulated and disjointed discussion.

Police and fire have unions...

Yeah they do. Looks like you enjoy paying for all the schemes and cronyism that goes with them. I personally like my tax dollars spent on other things.

Let’s go back to school here for sec. A union is a bargaining unit that exists to represent a workforce in coming to an agreement about work wages, hours and conditions, among other things. This agreement is the union contract.

I am all for the former items, It's the "among other things" that are usually the problem. And when the contract expires and they don't get their way, you get to go stand in a picket line or strike (if you are allowed to) until the union agrees to the new terms. Maybe it's worth it to fight for that extra free donuts on Monday morning benefit, maybe it's not.

Every executive in a modern has a work contract that lays out comp, benefits, golden parachute, what have you. What is the difference?

The difference is that there are normally very few executives compared to worker bees at a company. They contract the Executives because they don't want them to leave whenever they want due to the nature of their roles in steering the ship. And the Executives are not in a union.

BTW, it's called employment at will. You are not bound to a specific job, title or role in a company and if you find the grass is greener, you can go get some.

When your employer spends time and money convincing you something is bad or wrong for you, that should be a red flag.

So you are telling me that not having a union is bad or wrong for me, that should be a red flag right? I am not sure what you are blabbering about as I have not seen anything out of O. communications regarding Unions.

If you believe that the union has your best interests at heart, go for it. Better yet, go work for a defence contractor and let us know how many times they write you up for trying to do your job.

Very few corps truly have their employee’s best interests at heart. That is what decades of putting stockholders above all else has wrought.

Right. Keep telling yourself that. How many of the bad employers here are unionized?

Umm, look up the definition for "speculation" ?

FWIW, I wish I knew about this site before I got my own swift kick in the behind. If I did, I wouldn't be so naive and would've planned better.

“Unions have their place in the industry where people are being paid peanuts, but you are well compensated for the work you do. For the most part unions exist to serve themselves, not their members.”

Police and fire have unions, also nurses and pipe fitters. All good paying jobs.

And about unions existing to serve themselves, what do you think a modern mega corporation is?

I have no problems with people posting relevant layoff info, but most post irrelevant made up stuff and they do so repeatedly. The typical "Breaking News: I just heard from my cousin's uncle's friend's neighbour who heard it from someone purported to be some big bean at O saying that something is up." Yeah, that's not news worthy. Also the rants here with the how they are "attacked", "marginalized", "screwed", how this is a horrible place to work, etc. So what? Scheet happens. Hate to break it to you, but no one cares what you think or how you feel. You can choose to do something about your career here if you want to. Or you can leave if you are not. If you are the hot scheet you say you are, then you should have no problems getting a fatter paycheck and more rewarding career elsewhere.

"unions are demonized (by management, which should tell you all you need to know)."

Unions have their place in the industry where people are being paid peanuts, but you are well compensated for the work you do. For the most part unions exist to serve themselves, not their members.

And no, I don't want to go to work every day and be written up for not calling a union guy to wipe off my keyboard when I spill my drink.

This is terrible. Complaining about being "attacked," "hate" posts when others disagree with you and your narrative?

You guys aren't really interested in discussion and speculation unless it supports your opinion/rumor.

This is the reality for tons of tech employees especially in the US, where there are zero protections for workers, and unions are demonized (by management, which should tell you all you need to know).

Reorgs. Mergers and acquisitions. Job actions, layoffs, force reductions, workforce balancing. whatever the term of the year is, sites like this exist because trying to get and STAY employed is a c-apshoot these days, where there is no longer even a hint of stability or ideas on how to mitigate the effects on the humans. Because they don’t have to, there is no legal or societal pressure to do so, now this is the defacto way that these interactions occur.

Ironically, the tech that allows this forum is the same tech that allowed the job market to move online and become a black box where job descriptions run multiple pages, and resumes and applications disappear without a trace.

Those postings are tedious and if there was any way to block postings that have that stupid tin foil hat phrase that they can tell me about, I'd be forever grateful.

@bom, this proves you wrong, the page purpose statement- right from the thelayoffdotcom index page:

News, personal experiences, rumors and speculations about layoffs at your company.

So, it IS a rumor site. It’s also a place where people can share

their personal experiences, a who can better do that then people who have been laid off.

I certainly appreciate their perspective, and I’m really grateful they find time to share their experiences with us.

To avoid the useless posts just ignore the posts with negative (down) votes. It’s s pretty good indicator of what to skip. There is useful info posted on this site.

I find this site very informational. Reminds us we are still human and anxious about losing our jobs. It's okay to post our worst fears and thoughts as well as reach out to others for ideas and/or opinions. Concerns that we are afraid to express openly at work and probably to our family members we can bring up anonymously here. Could be true or unfounded, I think it's okay to express even at the risk of being mocked by others. Be careful how we react to others because Karma is 'listening.' We still need to be kind to each other.

If layoff rumors are true: one cannot stop/go back in time to undue their demise

if layoff rumors are false: more damage done here for no apparent good

if you are actually one of the laid-off: move on; find better use for your time

So your point is... this site should not exist? It serves no purpose... you cant know until it happens. So the rumor served no purpose other than to incite fear? If rumor is true its no help, if its false it does damage. So if both the outcomes of the true/false boolean is a negative, then its just a big negative.

Why come here then? Why not take your own advice and not waste time here?

I think people are scared because everyone is impacted at least on paper by the reorg. When they see a rumor they believe is false, the attack out of fear. Deep down they know something is wrong and they'd like to blame the poster for inflating that fear. Just my thoughts on the rational behind all the mean counter posts.
