The bottom line is that if you were or are targeted for layoff - because of 2 past performance reviews that were requires meets (keep in mind if the person reviewing you does not like you or is intimidated by you - your review can be less than desired) or if your at a pay range the company is not willing to increase any further, you can be selected for layoff. Remember, there were people excelling who were let go for monetary reasons, which happens at many companies. The event was timed at the end of the year so that the numbers could be cleared off the books and to entice those terminated to sign the settlement agreement because the money offered would look attractive around the Holidays when it can be used for Christmas shopping. Even more, the company did not want to wait until the raises were in effect to lay off individuals, as well. The key point to remember is that there was life before one started working at UOP and there is life after one leaves the university. Move forward and focus on the positive future - end of story - because UOP's loss is another employer's gain. Even more, if the news reports are accurate, the unemployed should experience better success looking for jobs compared to the previous 2-3 years. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!
