Brian Sommer at ZDnet has an interesting post today on Lawson and a potential acquisition by Infor. Now, he summarizes the potential downsizing estimates - he states that Lawson may expect to see budget and headcount cuts in Marketing and Back Office. Now, I'd argue that Infor will continue to pitch Lawson products under the Lawson brand - so, the folks in marketing may be in less danger than Sommer predicts. On the other hand I believe that Lawson's marketing campaigns are lame and in ineffective - but that's a whole new issue which I will not discuss here. As far as back office layoffs go, I'd venture to say that Lawson will be hit here hard as Infor did the same thing when they acquired Baan and they annihilated the working population of Baan's back office. So, back to the layoff prospects - overall - no big threat. Marketing - moderate layoff threat. Backoffice (HR, Finance) - strong layoff threat. Just my 2c...
