Heald College is likely to have massive layoffs. If the latest proposals for California financial aid are approved then likely NO Heald campus will be eligible for California Grants. If that was bad enough people are starting to LAUGH AT the name of Heald College. Some examples "Get In, Get Out, Get Behind, Get a Lot of Debt, Get on Welfare, Get Student Loan Collection Calls", "Heald High", "Had it at Heald", "Heald Had it Yesterday".
Having tutored many people in math and physics the quality of students from best to worse is : 1. UC students 2. CSU students 3. High School students 4. For profit trade school students
That is how bad the student quality Heald College or perhaps better put Heald High is at the current time. Almost comical if it were not so sad, I tutor students taking calculus and linear algebra at the local community college with a very rigourous instructor along with giving difficult grades and at the same time tutor a Heald College student taking a pre algebra class being simple arithmetic and fractions that I learned in 6th grade. You can only get an A in the class assuming you want one as all you have to do is to submit online homework and tests without any time limit and more importantly an unlimited number of times allowed to answer the questions. If that were not comical enough the entire course was posted online before the class started. Simply log on and I at least was able to complete the entire 1 quarter "math course" in less than six hours and aced the course with a 100% grade.
What these "students" don't realize is once they get their "diploma" be it medical assisting, paralegal, criminal justice, IT, etc. that they don't have the critical reasoning skills needed to succeed in the workplace. One doctor told me that a Heald Medical Assistant graduate was fired within the first two weeks for being unable to perform simple math. I have interviewed a couple of Heald IT graduates and they simply did not know the basics. Many employers have abandoned their employment agreements with Heald because of the poor quality of their graduates.
I have had more than one discussion as it were with for profit school administrators telling them if you don't produce a quality product then at some point you won't be able to sell it. The standard answer has been that we have always been able to find students. I suspect that the standard answer is likely to be proven wrong at least to the extent of finding enough students.
