@cci parthenon 18. >> Heald is not that bad ... << If you mean "not that bad" by making a comparison of Heald to either Wyotech or Everest then the statement is accurate. If you mean "not that bad" with posts about Heald then the statement is NOT accurate. To be fair (with regards to Heald), a substantial part of Heald's problem is OUTSIDE CCI's control. Heald was going to have a rough time even if it remained not for profit. CCI bought Heald along with its WASC accreditation and unfortunately went straight for instant gratification and immediate profits by filling up the seats and throwing admission standards which were never high to begin with "out the window". As a result, Heald College at least in some circles has the reputation of Heald Diploma Mill. Many employers have discontinued their employment relationships due to POOR SLOs. (student learning outcomes). Not to mention the other not so slight problem that you can get an almost FREE and BETTER education at the local PUBLIC community college. Heald lost Cal Grants starting in July 2012 and will NOT be eligible again until July 2014. The current students with Cal Grants can finish off their program with their Cal Grant suppliment being reduced by 20%. EVERYONE in sales (oops admission) is having an EXTREMELY difficult time meeting their goals (in reality quotas) for the upcoming October 15 start date of Fall Quarter. Heald enrollment for October 2012 look to be about 20% lower than for October 2011. Heald is making a big deal about getting its WASC SR. accreditation allowing it to offer BS degrees in business and nursing. The BS in nursing is to be offered in Fresno which has the slight problem that Fresno State University not only offers a BS degree in nursing but an MS along with a PhD as well. In short, it is just a "big mess" over at Heald and only time will tell. Heald won't close shop overnight but it appears likely that something will have to change over the near future to accomidate the declining enrollments.
