Look at Apollo Group compensation - there are 5 "executives" that would top this list. The difference between the universities on this list and the for-profits is immense. They not only educate students, but also contribute value research insights that not only have academic but practical value. The for-profits are more like community colleges that teach from textbooks. They do have a place but they are not remotely the same thing. The problem I (and many Americans) have with the for-profit education institutions is that the majority of monies derived from federal financial aid not spent on academics or instruction, but instead on marketing to get more federal financial aid money. - "Americans are idiots and the government has pounded this bias into everyones head about for profits. Let's take a look at the true thieves. Of course the state governments are just trying to protect their buddies by knocking for profit. This takes the focus of their thievery off themselves. 1. Graham B. Spanier, Pennsylvania State University, $2,906,271 2. Jay Gogue, Auburn University, $2,542,865 3. E. Gordon Gee, Ohio State University, $1,899,420 4. Alan G. Merten, George Mason University, $1,869,369 5. Jo Ann M. Gora, Ball State University, $984,647 6. Mary Sue Coleman, University of Michigan, $918,783 7. Charles W. Steger, Virginia Tech, $857,749 8. Mark G. Yudof, University of California, $847,149 9. Bernard J. Machen, University of Florida, $834,562 10. Francisco G. Cigarroa, University of Texas, $815,833 This does not even include money wasted on NCAA Teams."
