The exact formula has been used many times in the past. major shareholder wedges way onto mismanaged company's board, oust CEO, bring in new regime to cut jobs/reduce overhead and G&A, spin-off or sell the company outright or in pieces. its how boone pickens made his fortune. and Even if its not technically for sale, as debt comes down and financial complexity is unwound the company will look very attractive to a major oil company.
