Some Target Corporation layoffs took place on Wednesday, according to Biz Journals on Oct. 9. The move is said to be part of an effort to transform their business, and is not a reaction to sales performance, according to the company spokesperson.
Though the company is not detailing which specific departments were affected, the Target Corp. layoffs affected about 150 corporate employees. The cuts affected multiple locations, but Target spokeswoman Amy Reilly did not go into detail on where the cuts were made.
Reilly says that the cuts were made to keep the company competitive going forward. She said they looked at “a variety of business functions” in order to shift some responsibilities and make “fiscally responsible business decisions.”
StarTribune details that the Target Corp. layoffs represent about 1 percent of its corporate workforce, which is based in Minneapolis and has an additional campus in Brooklyn Park. Reilly added that their “future model” did not support the “current size of the team.”
Those affected by the Target Corp. layoffs reportedly wrapped up work on Wednesday, but will stay on the payroll for 45 days.
