Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Hello All - I am not with UOP nor I attended the school. I came here as I work for a different company (Follett) that's going through layoffs right now. I have a question for those of you who were working in enrollment - I was prompted by Pee Wee's comment below as I always wandered why people chose Corinthian or UOP or whoever in for-profit sector over Community colleges or State schools? I think simple math tells you pretty much anything (Community colleges are almost free, state schools are at lease half the cost of for profit schools). Can someone walk me through the reasoning of a typical candidate that goes the for profit route? I imagine that your folks must have amazing sales skills as for a rational person the math just does not add up.
