I was talking to my regional the other day. He asked if I had put out my save the sale things. I said I had, but that it wasn't working because my students refuse to buy new books, and refuse to rent something and be responsible for it if they didn't have it in their hands. Some even questioned the legality of signing a rental agreement for a book they did not possess. The RM replied that the powers that be were wondering why we had come up with the program in the first place. "Why are we planning on being out of books?" they asked. So maybe the new senior managers had no clue of the restrictions that were being placed on book buying and QTCs, or maybe they're trying to distance themselves from their poor mandates. The RM was trying to give me hope that things would change in the future. I don't believe they will. I think we have alienated so many customers by being out of stock that it would take 4 years - time for them to graduate - for us to recover, and only then it would happen if we can win incoming freshmen and then KEEP THEM BY SERVING THEM WELL FOR ALL 4 YEARS OF THEIR LIVES. It is not going to happen. Already they're not letting us buy "non-essential supplies". Tell me, what operational supply is non-essential? Buckle up. It's going to get worse before it gets better.
