Follett got fat suckling on the tit of financial aid and those captive students who could only purchase their textbooks at the campus bookstore. Declining enrollments and less financial aid means a smaller pool of potential customers for the company. I am an alumn for a follett school but am not going to spend 20 bucks for a tshirt. Trying to sell more $20 tshirts and $50 sweatshirts is not going to help turn around multi-million dollar declines due to lost text sales. This senior management team is putting the long term viability of the business on the line in exchange for short term wins to the balance sheet, such as outsourcing all IT to India and eliminating positions at the store level that provide customer service and student support. All of the flash sales and website enhancements (that should have begun to occur in the early/mid 00's) will not help this company catch up to Amazon (because, this is what company wishes efollett could become) or other smaller, more nimble competitors. The company truly lacks an identity and many employees have lost faith in this leadership. More and more talented people will continue to jump ship because this leadership does not inspire confidence. Middle management is no better as most are too scared to challenge upper management for fear they will get the ax. The worker bees (i.e. people who actually get the work done) are pushed around by unrealistic expectations and no support due others being let go or lucky enough to leave on their own. This company is definitely not heading in the right direction. Good luck to all who are trying to exit on their own free will.
