Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Missing ISBNs

As a grandparent looking to help my granddaughters, as a friend trying to help a friend and as a neighbor trying to help a neighbor buy books (all from three different Follett stores), I was shocked to find that ISBN are not included on their websites.

Hope that "Big Brother" is listening because I'm mad. Will be contacting local state-wide newspaper so that others will know about this blatant attempt to ............the students and I hope, within the next two weeks it will go national.

It's funny really.

Independent stores are using price compare software and expanding transparency.

Follett stores are limiting transparency. How shocking.

Nah, just go to amazon and type in the author/title and you will find the book PLUS the isbn to compare. Amazon doesn't play games, they understand you win a customer through service, pricing and logistics. I wonder which companies financials are growing versus shrinking. Let me see, KMart down, Sears down, Amazon way up

Nope, not a monitor, just a fed up former employee who is tired of being told that it's not good customer service to not be gung ho about helping customer's shop elsewhere. I spent years going above and beyond for the people in my store, whether they came in and spent a dollar for a soda or a hundred on a text. I would also spend time helping people price textbooks, knowing they would look elsewhere. What I would get frustrated with (and clearly still do) is when people came in, expected us to do all the work for them in regards of gathering information and pricing, and then left to shop elsewhere. I got off the titanic a while ago, but I use the lessons I learned there. When I shop for better prices, I do it myself.

Based on your response, I suspect that you are the Follett spokesperson that monitors this site. Some of your Follett stores post this information, most had posted the ISBNs over the past several several years, I believe all of B&N stores still do it. Just think of all the man hours you will save by just posting the information, rather than placing additional burdens on you overly stressed store staff that now have to waste there time to show how the customer can get the ISBN that they are looking for. Follett may not be in violation of the law but they are certainly acting within the spirit of the law. Enjoy you remaining time on the Titanic.

I believe this speaks to the usability of the eFollett site. You use ISBNs to make sure that you are purchasing the correct book.

How is this a blatant attempt to ...... students? The prices are listed, aren't they? The title, author, and edition? Is the school following the law that they (and not the store) are required to obey and do they have the isbns posted somewhere? Kudos to you for wanting to help so many people with purchasing their books, but are you really angry at a business for not holding your hand as you shop for better prices? I comparison shop like any savy shopper, but I don't expect businesses to do the leg work for me. This is a site for people who have been laid off or are looking to leave the company soon. Please take complaints like this elsewhere.
