I'd been at UHC for just under 25 years. Then yesterday, "Your position has been eliminated. Good luck!!" I'd been proud of the progress I'd been allowed to make and even of my salary. I agree with a previous post, there is no rhyme or reason for the layoffs except for tenure and salary.

I really think they did an "eenie-meenie-miinie-moo" on who goes/who stays. I know folks let go who were w/UHC forever along with those of us w/only a few yrs. We're supposed to have access to the system for 2 weeks to post to other positions (like there are any out there) and get personnel info but NO we've all been locked out unless you want to go thru the hassle of calling the help desk (also manned by off-shore folks). We were told it came down to the profit margins - what a load of crap!!! And the manager who delivered the news didn't even have the guts to apologize for the actions taken. What a whimp!

What sort of package are they giving you?
They are talking about massive layoffs in my department too. They said that tenure would work in our favor but from what I have heard from other people who were laid off, this means nothing, or even works against you. We're all just taking it day by day, wondering if we're going to get that call next.
