I wonder if the DOE knows the reality about the special Heald Grant/Scholarship going to students that have a balance after all the federal monies are awarded? So, the students with the most need don't get a tuition discount but those that, according to the federal guidelines do not have as much need, actually only have to pay $500 of the balance? Where is the money coming to pay for this? Tuition revenues will only further decline. I'm all for helping lower costs for students but really?

The Opportunity Grant will have an impact on the school's monthly cash since it is considered a scholarship. It is to cover the RBS (gap) since Genesis bailed out on CCI. However, they are looking into another private loan that the school can utilize.
Ah, the opportunity grant. It makes it sound so nice and cuddly. "But I'm from an underprivileged background." "Shut UP! NO opportunity grant for you! Max out those loans!!"

I think the point is probably moot at this point.
I don't know about ED, but the press should be reporting this. I think American taxpayers should know about it. As one, it sure pisses me off!
The grant really bothers me too. It's basically implying that the tuition is less, but if you qualify for full Pell they want that and to have you max your loans as well. Don't qualify for Pell? OK, just max your loans and we'll take care of the rest (well, almost all of it). Isn't that the main issue that everyone is worked up about? High cost but low value degrees with most of the profits coming from taxpayers.
